So my friend emails me a song a while back before With Teeth came out and says "I got a copy of a new NIN song, check it out." It's obviously bogus.

Now I wanna know who it is because it's no NIN, but it's not bad either.

Some of the lyrics are:

"Last Night I was the king plaything."
"I'll do anything to feel. I'll take anything ot feel something. What is the Point of this debate?"

Here's a link to the song.

http://idisk.mac.com/phantom27/Public/fakeNIN.mp3

If you can't get the link to work just right click and save as.

Thank you all for trying.

The band is Haloblack - http://www.thesickcity.com (well its one guy - Brain Black). If you can buy all the album by this guy you can find, they're pure gold.

If you can remember back to about 6-10 months ago on the NIN access page there is a message from him and a link to his latest project Xlover - http://www.xlover.net which is sassy pop electro stuff, really really good music.

D'oh, rustybones beat me to it.

Yeah, they're Haloblack, and this particular song is one of my favorites. I highly suggest that if you like that track, and that sort of style of music, pick up everything and anything you can by Black - it's all phenomenal and I've never heard anything I've disliked.

I remember hearing about Xlover, but never followed up - rusty, anyone else, are they any good? significantly different from HB?

Xlover is very different from Haloblack in the way that they're not industrial sounding one bit, but very similar with what is done with keys etc.

Also check out MOTOR, you can find info about them at the sick city I think, follow the link above

Me thinks that someone who joins today with the name Halodweller, asking about a band called Haloblack, sounds alot like self-promotion to me... Of course, if that is the case, you got exactly what you were asking for...

Yeah, at first listen it always reminds me of like, Leather Strip + anything Tim Skold touches + new KMFDM or something, I dunno. But it's catchy enough.

Then again, he could be reffering to what Trent names his albums in his username.

The music, isnt.. that.. good. He's very monotonous. It reminds me of Vast in a way.

xlover seems pretty good too -- I listened to the stuff on their website. I was trying to DL one of the songs from haloblack's website to see if that song was good as well... but the link was broken. MOTOR is too raw/hard for me.. too much INDUSTRIAL industrial sounding like throbbing gristle (then again I might not have heard the right TG stuff to get into it)

Throbbing Gristle isn't for everyone. I don't think you can ever really recommend anything of theirs that's "easily accessible" for someone, but if you're curious and want to start somewhere, I definitely recommend picking up "20 Jazz Funk Greats" and taking a listen. Work your way out from there.

Coil also comes highly recommended in this vein, of course.

You hit the nail on the head. Halo is reference to the albums and dweller because I love NIN and I dwell in his world of music.

Thank you Grizzly for finding out who this is. i actually have another track I can't discover if you guys want to help!

Thanks to all!

I don't know if this has been answered before, but does anyone know what band actually did the song "Angel" that NIN has been credited for on many p2p programs?

While we're on the topic, does anyone remember an mp3 that was circulating a while back of a song recorded off the radio station FNX. The song was supposed to be by Nine Inch Nails (off of the then-upcoming Fragile album) and was called digital, but that was obviously fake. Anyway, I really liked the song, but never figured out who the real artist was. Anyone remember this?
