Enjoy this incredibly harmonious version of 'In Two' from the Tension tour. Sharlotte Gibson and Lisa Fischer add real beauty to this great NIN deep cut. I still wish it didn't end so abruptly. That fucked up guitar/keyboard/Reznor-thing that appears about 12 seconds from the end should've been played longer into a coda.

Call me crazy but I really do think it's my favorite MM album. At the very least it's got a lot of baggage for me; I listened to it a lot at a certain point in my life that I can connect pretty much every song to a specific event if that makes sense, it's the kind of thing just enriches it for my own personal listening that I love about music that somehow suits where you're at when you first hear it. A big part of it might be that, but I just have a hard time finding anything not to like about it. It's got the most distinctive, seductive sound of any MM album, the music is just fantastic, the vocal delivery and sound is gorgeous to my ears, it's just a lot more to me than it seems to be to most.

Every time I listen to it I feel like I understand it a lot more and I understand it a lot less all at the same time. Still one of the weirdest, most out-there things I've ever listened to and loved. Karen's vocals really are at their all-time best on it, just this amazing blend of feral, gorgeous and other-worldly that all blend into this one big mess of a vocal delivery that's at times enchanting and others absolutely antagonistic (her little "ha-ha, ha"'s on Full of Fire are just menacing as all hell).

Say You Will, Love Lock Down, Street Lights, Bad News, Coldest Winter, it's just so good at so many points. Yeezus is what I consider Kanye's masterpiece and I don't see it getting topped, but 808s is a second favorite. The entire trilogy of 808s, MBDTF, Yeezus is just one of the best strings of albums I've heard from anyone in recent years.

Queens of the Stone Age really is one of those bands who have maybe three albums you can totally argue as being their masterpiece, and I mean that in a great way. Rated R, Songs for the Deaf and ... Like Clockwork are all pretty much perfect in their own ways. Better Living Through Chemistry is a near-perfect portrait of how I felt on meds.

Steve Reich - Music for 18 Musicians

I've never really listened to the origins of minimalism before, which is a real embarassment for a citizen of Berlin with an interest in electronic music. I really need to go through the discography of Reich, Glass and Riley. It sounds a bit monotonous at first, but I already recognize its impact on later music.

I do like "Coexist", but agree that is less "memorable" as the first album, yet i think "Coexist" is more intimate and has stronger lyrics...

Blood on the Tracks by Dylan. Love this album.

Anyway, I always assumed the "Italian poet from the 13th century" he was referring to in Tangled up in Blue was Petrarch because he wrote all of those sonnets for Laura. Made sense in the context of the song. However, I was reading about Petrarch today and he was actually from the 14th century. Anyone have any idea who he is talking about? Online someone said Dante's Vita Nova is the book of poems he mentioned. But, I don't think Vita Nova is poetry. Unless Dante wrote love poems? I'm not familiar with most of his works, just the Divine Comedy.

Also, Dylan changes the lyrics to this song constantly. He switches the century, poet's origin and even cites Bible sections. So the whole thing could be meaningless.

FeedYourHead

(Mostly) everything Dante wrote was actually poetry. It was written in archaic Italian; it even rhymes perfectly and everything.
Vita Nove was about Beatrice, the Dante equivalent of Petrarch's Laura.

(Mostly) everything Dante wrote was actually poetry. It was written in archaic Italian; it even rhymes perfectly and everything.
Vita Nove was about Beatrice, the Dante equivalent of Petrarch's Laura.

Flipping through part of Vita Nove and reading the introduction I thought it was an autobiography. So it's a autobiographical poem?

Si. It's a prosimetrum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosimetrum) so there's some prose interspersed with the sonnets and lyrics and such. It's autobiographical in the sense that Dante wrote about his infatuation with Beatrice, starting from when they first met as children and through her death and his mourning.

I think the prickishness has subsided recently to be fair, probably due to marriage and rehab. But he was a cunt, no questions about it.
As of now, the prickiest he will get will be some of the quips he makes live ("Fuck someone in the eye" for example), and pretty much every metal frontman does that shit.

Started reading The Divine Comedy today and already there is a line Dylan referenced. I guess it is Dante. Thanks!!!!

I've been listening Achtung Baby and other U2 records extensively recently. Achtung Baby is the only U2 album I've owned for years and recently decided to delve deeper to their discography. Besides Achtung Baby I've enjoyed (So far) Pop, Joshua Tree, The Unforgettable Fire and No Line On The Horizon and I'm looking forward to listening their earlier records.

Got around listening the first three U2 albums and liked the War most of them. I really like the post-punk-ish style in these albums and some songs reminds me of Joy Division or The Cure. Definitely will buy these albums at some point as well. Also, I was wondering if Songs of Experience will be released at some point this year as the new tour is called Innocence + Experience.

Yeah, i downloaded it from itunes, since the physical album is very expensive to get around here, i wasn't dissapointed, i already own the first 2 albums and "This is what you want, this is what you get", but this one is great since it has alternate versions and even B sides, it was a great buy!.

Accidently stumbled accross this gorgeous sexy Carter/Tutti ( Throbbing Gristle) track whilst viewing an Alexander Mcqueen fashion vid. Track is called Dancing Ghosts.

i'm kind of embarrassed to say that, as much of a huge TG fan i am, i've never listened to carter/tutti / chris & cosey. i tried psychic TV but i could never really get into it that much.

side question: how are they still showing alexander mcqueen? is it stuff made under his imprint by other people, or is it designs he had left over that others are executing in his stead? i don't know how that sort of thing works in the fashion world.

I grabbed it because this album gets posted so much i thought i would be better to post the variant.
And yes, it's a real thing, this was exclusive on vinyl, as far as i know there's no difference in the content, just the cover; as far as i know there's also another variant (all black), released on vinyl for "Record Store Day", i wanted that one, but ended up buying the red cover with the expanded booklet...

And I confess, in 1987 I thought their first hits were Depeche Mode (but I was not the only one). :-) And yes, I like them, and actually I enjoyed their concerts more than Depeche Mode for some reason, less... "scripted" if you will.

yeah there are several bands around that era that were DM clones. camouflage, red flag, anything box, celebrate the nun, cetu javu etc. this is the closest sound-alike i've heard though:

Don't be embarrassed, (for me) that is what threads like this are all about, discovering potential new shit.
As for Chris & Cosey, I recommend the album "Techno Primitiv." Really though, they have so much good stuff it'd be hard to go wrong with almost anything.

I went to two gigs on that tour, very good indeed and Brown sounded much better than expected. First show was almost spoiled by a bunch of chumps down the front fighting, but when Ian announced he would not continue unless it stopped, all was good after that.

Yup, back on topic...

Cosi/Carter have made some beautiful music, big discography, a lot of it is very romantic, they are really really great, Alexander Mcqueen died in 2010. But the company was taken over. Its still one of the Top 5 fashion companies. The shows are still huge.

Mesmerizing new album from The Unthanks. If you dig mellow folky-bluesy-jazzy arrangements, you will probably flip your shit over this. Easily one of the best albums of 2015. You can order this on vinyl or whatever format you like from their website. There's a link to the 24 bit studio lossless to download as well:

been listening to the Benji album by Sun Kil Moon.

Pretty amazing. THIS is the answer to people who say "the album is dead." This doesn't function based on its singles. It doesn't really have singles. It's a full album, full of songs that mean something with relation to the song that came before and the song that follows. It doesn't tell a narrative story, but it relates like a set of journal entries. Whether or not this is the first instance of something like this, it feels really new to me.

The closest thing that comes to mind is Blood on the Tracks, but it's nothing like that, even though it's the first thing that comes to mind.

Has anyone else checked out the new Modest Mouse album? Just me? Probably just me.

I've only listened once and my initial impression is that I may end up really liking it but it'll be a grower if I do. Hard to describe the sound but I would say it's much closer to We Were Dead... than their other albums (from what I've heard, there are still one or two older ones I haven't heard). Weird, as expected. A lot of very signature MM touches. Some dreamy songs, some poppy, weird ones and one song that reminds me a lot of Hesitation Marks. Not complaining.

"Strange World" is my favorite song from the first album, funny because i always compare it with "Run of the Mill" by Judas Priest, that's also on their first album (Rocka Rolla), both songs are very different from their respective catalogs, yet i think they are among their best (and obscure) tracks...
