At this time it's ALL about the Nedry. Just had the album through the door along with free stickers & pin badges (I'm easily bought) and the FLAC's for the Violaceae single is downloading, including the Gazelle Twin remix.

If you've never heard of them then imagine a Japanese Bjork fronting deep grooves of electronica. That's a horribly cheap descriptive line but it's easily digested.

Remembrance Of Peter Christopherson - programmed by Jonathan Dean

Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson (1955-2010) was a founding member of Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV and Coil. He was also an influential visual artist, photographer, video director and designer. Sleazy spent more than three decades at the vanguard of underground music and culture, pioneering the provocative, transgressive movement known as industrial music, before reinventing himself and his art numerous times throughout the 1980s, 90s and 00s. A common thread through all of Sleazy's work - music, design, photography - was the use of cutting-edge technology. Sleazy was one of the first musicians to use a computer on stage, incorporating an Apple II into Throbbing Gristle performances at a time when "computer music" was the exclusive realm of academics. In the ensuing decades, Sleazy pioneered unique combinations of digital and analogue equipment to produce the rich textures, sidereal sequencing and unorthodox sampling techniques that became the trademark of his adventurous work in Coil, Threshold HouseBoys Choir and SoiSong.

Sleazy had an endlessly eclectic and inclusive aesthetic that incorporated influences as far-reaching and various as medieval liturgical music, Arvo Part, Martin Denny, Isaan pop music and Chicago Acid House. If his constantly shifting approach to sound-making can be said to have any consistent thread, it would be his willingness to follow technological lines-of-flight: time-stretching, mutating and shaping sound via digital means, creating unique textures which reflected his interest in ethnic music, drone, psychedelia and the dark undercurrents of pop music. For this tribute, tracks have been chosen from across Sleazy's recorded output that reflect this singular approach. Tracks are presented in a continuous mix, in roughly chronological order, from the very earliest work by Throbbing Gristle in 1977, to Sleazy's late work as Threshold HouseBoys Choir. The tracks chosen are those which highlight Sleazy's own unique aesthetic, and his use of technology. Wherever possible, alternate mixes, rare, and unreleased tracks have been included, as well as snippets of interviews with Sleazy commenting on his work.

A group called GODFLESH.... their entire discography. What a brilliant band. Not just the best Industrial Metal group to come out of the UK in the past 20 years but I also hear loads of other influences in their music. Hip Hop, Noise, Post Rock, Dub, Reggae etc.

Death Grips - "The Money Store"

It's not punk. It's not rap. It's not industrial. It's not pop.

It's like being repeatedly shot into the future, punched in the face, fired back again and given a high five, all while wearing glitter and barbed wire glasses.

If you've heard the tracks pushed out before it's release then you have to hear the rest - the run of "Double Helix", "System Blower" and "The Cage" is just insane.

Album of the year for me so far for many reasons - especially due to the utter ballsy bravado of dropping this as the first of two full albums in 2012 and getting a major to fund it.

I'm listening to Does It Offend You, Yeah?

Today, exactly one year after they announced that they were going to be announcing North America tour dates "imminently," that they're on hiatus until further notice. Fuck. I was sooo looking forward to seeing them again (as you can probably tell by me knowing the date that they were announcing dates), and after waiting through a year of them saying "Yeah, we're working on this new material and these new designer shoes" and "Hey, we're playing 400 more shows in Australia," they're taking a hiatus to do other things.

I'm sure they've got their reasons. But...blah. I'm just a butthurt fan about it.

If Boards of Canada were a (really good) metal band and had a singer......euphoric, hard, beautiful, soothing, metal. Sounds emanating from that mass of contradictions.
I wish more heavy bands would do this today ....drop the pantomime devil menace and loose the stupid vocals..... just let the music do the talking. This is real metal. Love the genre. When it goes to different places. It has a lot of possibilities.

So, based on this recommendation I downloaded that album... and I tried, but I'm not liking it. I'll give another shot later, but it just seems sloppily produced, and the vocal approach really bothers me. Everything about it was just immediately offputting to me.

I think metal is totally ripe for a revolution at the moment. That retro 80s thrash crap has gotten old. Metal needs to reach out to other genres again for inspiration, instead of just looking inwards back to old metal. I think djent is on the right path, looking to jazz, classical, electro/ambient for ideas. The movement just needs the right band to make a mark.

Currently been listening to:

I was actually about to shit can this record after hearing blood for poppies, but it really IS good.

The single remains one of the worst songs Garbage has IMHO ever written though.

I had the same reaction hearing the first songs of the album. Up to and including Control, it does absolutely nothing for me. And then it gets good. Sugar must be one of their best songs ever.

I love the art of a slow intro building up to a proto climax before the vocals even start. Here's one of my favorite examples that combines feedback with drum machines and a slow building bass. It's the extended version of "Sidewalking" by The Jesus and Mary Chain :

This may belong in the controversial opinions thread, but I reckon the Automatic era has the coolest JAMC stuff there is (outside of Barbed Wire Kisses). Drum machines + gnarly, noisy guitars = perfection.

I listened to a shitload of Our Lady Peace yesterday on my way back from a mini-vacation for the holiday. Had been a long time since I had and I quite liked their new album. Spiritual Machines is such a fantastic album, forgot how much I loved that shit. Liked Burn,Burn a lot more on a second listen too, the album cover for Curve is just awful though. Somehow didn't have Clumsy copied to my mp3 player. Makes me wish I could've made it to a couple of the shows a couple years ago when they were doing Clumsy and Spiritual Machines in their entirety, especially since I've never even seen them live.

Not really LOL.

I love Buster Poindexter. Really amusing, lame party music that tried to be as funny as serious. True 80's, early 90's cheese.

Have rediscovered my love for Industrial Metal...i love the CRUSHING sound that Industrial Metal has. Something about it is really sexy. Not much matches its power. Quite Euphoric. Find it hits harder and is more effective.

Also been listening to Dark Side of the Spoon by Ministry.....SO underrated. Definetly their most Experimental record. And Bleakest.
I can see why people disliked it. it goes off on all these experimental tangents. Which i found interesting. Loads of NO Wave and Jazz influences on it. Its probably their creepiest record too. I think this is one of their best tracks ever. Love the droning guitar sound.

yeah, that's the thing. i think yello are criminally underrated. i HATED oh yeah for soooo long that i never gave them a fair shot, and i was quite pleased when i dug a little deeper. you gotta say yes to another excess and stella are amazing, and even 'oh yeah' sounds great in the context of that record! pretty ahead of their time, and especially out there compared to their synthpop brethren!

So do I, but this isn't nearly as severe as lets say Layne Staley was for Alice in Chains. Tony's doing a great job, but I'll hold further judgement until I've seen him doing the old songs live. The Turbonegro-feel is still there though and I think I'll enjoy the album alot. Would love to go to Hamburg for the Welt-Turbojugend-Tage this July, but my schedule is pretty packed. I hope they will hit some other cities later this year.
