This "flowerkid" just grabbed me right by the heart strings. They only have four songs, and they are BEAUTIFULLY sad. And, this one's drum and bass!

The lyrics are DEEPLY personal, going so far as to throw in a first name on one track: "you walked away with Mark, and my phone started to buzz" on Miss Andry.
The production is great, and different on all four songs.

As far as I can tell, this is a one man operation (aside from the guest vocalist on It's Happening Again.) "flowerkid" is the singer and producer.

I'll damn sure be keeping an eye on this.

The Fight Club soundtrack by the Dust Brothers is one of my favorite things that have been continuously entering my ears for 15 straight years, and yet I'm only just now listening to this remix EP. And I have to say that at least a couple of remixes are interesting (though I found the remix of "Homework" to be hilarious, as it's pretty much the same track with added bongos and vocal samples).

And, of course, they HAD to pull the "vinyl-exclusive bonus track" trick here: the "This Is Your Life" track that actually features spoken word by Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden and lists Chuck Palahniuk himself as a co-songwriter (I'm pretty sure they re-recorded it specifically for the track and it's not a sample from the movie). Still, you can find it in CD-quality as a bonus track in the European version of the OST, or in a CD-single that also features one of the remixes from the EP and an exclusive one by Cheeba and Mackrosoft that is fun, I guess.

I liked Mythmaker a lot, but I also felt like Greater Wrong of the Right got a bad reaction, mainly because it sounded accessible. It's really a lot like how I felt the fan reaction to The Process was really disappointing. That was an interesting album, and everyone acted like it was derivative garbage.

I took it out for a spin last week. Really seems like something you have to sit down with, that can't be listened to while commuting/on the go. Demands attention. Lots of different styles on there. We saw them live at Taste of Chaos on the small side stage. I've never seen a crowd be in awe like that, just full attention and silence. Warbler, Bug Eyes and Ode to the Sun just stunned us in amazement. We were going nuts for them in the stands, immediately bought everything the next day.

Saw them for the first time in a million years last Wed with Kataklysm and Internal Bleeding. Great show, terrible neanderthal crowd as expected. Deicide was TIGHT. And Glen's vocals are damn impressive for 55. Had a signature rant right before they started making it clear to the crowd to NOT stagedive or crowd surf or you will be thrown out of the show. It's alright but not what I was expecting from reviews.

Also I'm kind of spoiled by the Atmos albums that I've heard. It's amazing how much better than a 5.1 listening experience it is. Instead of speakers where you can lose some minor details because of room ambiance you can use headphones and hear everything. I definitely feel like it's something that could be used to great effect in future albums.

The problem so far is that a lot of the mixes just sound like when you turn the live preset on. It's more open but it's also shallower, somehow. It reminds me of when stereoscopic 3D started where they were just taking a 2D film and shifting it and it looked like crap instead of actually taking the time. Or like the first wave of DVDA and SACD where it was just "woah sounds are coming from individual speakers!" like the STP debut. But then The Flaming Lips came along and actually produced a surround mix for Yoshimi and Soft Bulletin and it was mind-blowing. This could be that.

Speaking of, I hope Wayne and Co. realize this and do a quick Atmos pass with the stems they should still have.

After nearly a decade of mediocre to passable albums they finally released the awesome Book of Souls to only release this as a follow up. Unfortunate.

My favorite book series growing up - more so than LotR even - and I was interested to see what this was about.

I do not know what it is about, especially as it relates to the book series. It's good, but I'm missing something I believe.

Side note: this would be a great movie / limited TV series with the way budgets and effects are right now. And much like lightning-bolt-boy-who-shall-not-be-named the series can grow with the actor as they show growth of character and person.

yeah, you're missing my internal thoughts when I wrote that. :P what I mean is that the drumss seem to be quieter, like the person who did the mix put them further down and brought up everything else. No boom.

but yeah mostly they are quieter. There are some mixes - the Ten release from Pearl Jam - that sound louder and yet like you're hearing all of the instruments much more clearly.

Without knowing the original quote it's hard to tell but if you refer to "this is why Eskimo Callboy is fun because they dismiss themselves and let ruling the fun", it definitely sounds like an error in translation.

I don't know the band very well and I don't know the homophobic lyrics. It is still very common in German rap music to discriminate gay people, so maybe it's a parody on that or they did it themselves in an unreflected way. Besides that, based on the artists they collaborate with I assume they can't be total dickheads. And they surely use irony in their image

I am a little drunk and would like to profess my love for skinny puppy. the old shit, the mid shit and the newer shit. it is equally great.

I got into them after NIN in the mid 90s. NIN was my first deep dive and influenced my early musical leanings. I bought the plug album, squarepusher, meat beat, prick and the rest based on the nothing logo on the back and not much else. NIN also introduced me to the classic industrial rock scene. where ministry, kmfdm and others, while still great, have not stood the test of time, skinny puppy has. it took some time to adjust to ogres vocals and the sheer craziness of it all. but damn, those are great songs. testure, spasmolytic, amnesia, empty, magnifishit, village....it goes on and on. the side projects are equally as compelling, both cevin's and ogre's. so that is what i am jamming tonight while the family sleeps. i may start with too dark park, move to last rights and the process, and then choice cuts from then on. good stuff. i hope i am preaching to the choir, but i feel they are somewhat forgotten. peace and love all.
