I met him once around "Radio KAOS". He was a bit tweeky at that point. Then the following week I met the other guys from Pink Floyd. Roger was playing a small arena whilst Pink Floyd were playing the football stadium. Roger's show was way better.

I've been following Stephen Richard's on Instagram for some time now, and he's been working on a new Taproot album for about 6 years now, literally doing everything on his own, including mastering which he eventually had to send in for finishing touches.

I'm probably the only person on this board that gives a shit about this band, but I cannot help what my ears like to hear, and he was always the most interesting member of the band, and his voice here is just amazing. This song got me through a lot of hard times when Our Long Road Home was released, and damn is it a tear jerker.

I grew up with it - and lived it for a week at a time (https://wvculture.org/explore/camp-washington-carver/string-band-music-festival/) in my backyard - so I'm good either way.

Though the story he tells of going to Japan and having his label pay for him to be there while doing the anime is pretty funny.

Also I really wanted to go to that tour as well. Sigh. :(

I finally got to sit down again and listen to this album. The amount of hate it gets is unwarranted, for this is arguably Taproot's magnum opus.

The history for the album is messy, with most of the material being finished before Our Long Road Home and Blue Sky Research respectively (Stephen Richards loathes those albums) and even though I hate the robot voice that is trying to move you along with the story, you're better off just reading the lyrics yourself to see what is being told.

For some reason I find the history of this band fascinating, along with talking to Richards directly through his Instagram lives sessions (Dude has been through hell) but I am excited to hear the new album, even if it's just more of the same. I always loved Richards as a musician and the tones he brings forward, but have to give him credit for sticking with the new material that he pretty much wrote all by himself.

And the whole Limp Bizkit thing was also blown way out of proportion. They were offered a cruddy production deal (Not a record deal) and there was no guarantee that they would even be signed, along with losing the rights to the songs that Durst wanted them to make for the EP. They wanted to do things on their own terms and I respect the hell out of them for doing that, even if it meant less publicity. Stephen Richards also claims that the formula that was used for the drums in "Nookie" was indeed Taproot's, and I believe that 100%.

They decided to go with Rick Rubin to work with, and Fred got so into his feelings, he left that notorious answering machine message, along with trying to kick System Of A Down off a current tour because the same manager was associated with Taproot lolol.

I was in Victoria BC last week for Spring Break and the classic rock radio station we were listening to played this song three times over four days:

Turns out they're a Canadian band so that checks one of my "why are they playing this" boxes. Also the song is from the 80s, checks another box.

The reason I even bring it up is because when I was in the car I couldn't shake the song, it stayed in my head. The best I could liken it to at the time - and still, really - is if Black Album James Hetfield decided to make an album with the Oingo Boingo crew circa their Boingo iteration.

The other thing that was weird is that this classic rock station - it was clearly exampled by how much classic rock they were playing - but then suddenly Finger Eleven. This is not a well known band outside of their fanbase and a couple soundtracks (Scream 3, Daredevil) and yet there they are.

In 2002, Finger Eleven covered and remixed the entrance theme for wrestler Kane, a song they called "Slow Chemical", which was recorded and mixed at Metalworks Studios in Mississauga, Ontario. Kane used the song from 2002 to 2008. It was also used in WrestleMania 20 (2004), WrestleMania 22 (2006), WWE Backlash (2006), WrestleMania 23 (2007), and in the video game WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008, as well as on the soundtrack for 2004's film The Punisher.


"One Thing" reached No.16 on Billboard's U.S charts, and appeared in the TV shows Scrubs, Smallville, and Third Watch (uncredited). It was also used on World Wrestling Entertainment's 2007 edition of Raw, during a tribute video for Chris Benoit, who had killed himself and his family on June 25.

I have no idea why this album of theirs captures me so. It just feels so much more vital than any of their other ones, the way the songs just drive at you without being loud. Like "Pachuca Sunrise", the riff in that song is great. "Memphis & 53rd" is another one where the guitar is so quiet and melodic but it drives everything in the song with the drums following along right behind it to make sure that you're not lagging anywhere.

A Static Lullaby, turned into a 4 piece band, made one of the best Post-Hardcore albums, ever in my opinion, and dipped. Joe Brown is an incredibly, underrated unclean vocalist, with Dan Arnold absolutely CRUSHING it on cleans.

Taproot just released their new album, and after following Stephen Richards for all of this time, I'm so happy for him that this material saw the light of day. It's definitely Taproot, but you can hear that Richard's just said "Fuck it" and made what he wanted to make. Everything on the album was pretty much done by him, alone, and it is quite impressive, even if you don't dig it. It's raw, heavy, holds a lot of unique song structures, and downright weird, but in a good way. New Taproot in 2023? Who would have thought?
