Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park, Last Rights, Rabies
Ministry - Land of the Rape and Honey, In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up

All of which is possibly the most evil sounding music ever put to tape. This all started because I listened to a live stream of SP's new album, which really just made me want to listen to the old stuff.

I think I'm gonna break out a little Front 242 (OFF and UP EVIL), Nitzer Ebb (Ebbhead), PWEI later... but I dunno. The sheer ugly evilness of SP is what sounds good right now. These others might be too pretty. :D

If you want more 'industrial / noisier' sound I'd start with the "Haus der Lüge" and the other previous (earlier) albums. And if you are looking for more laid back sound check the newer material (1996 and forward): "Silence is sexy", "Perpetuum Mobile".

definitely check out Portion Control

one of the under appreciated pioneers. It's easy to assume that without them, Skinny Puppy would have sounded like a very different band. I'm generally not too big into buying stuff from the iTunes store, but you can get a huge collection of practically all of Portion Control's music for six dollars.

Also check out Einsturzende Neubauten, because they're gods. The music recommendations that people have made here are all fantastic, but I'd also suggest you hunt down the movie for Halber Mensch. There's also a live concert video Palast Der Republik, which was at one point on Netflix.

And because it is required, Throbbing Gristle.

Now granted, I remember buying this album when it came out....but then again I was a kid ten years ago and didn't have the taste I feel like I currently do. My friend and I were talking about this album the other day and how it's such a mess....but he said it's not as bad as everyone remembers.

I honestly think I haven't listened to this since the year it came out. I don't even like Metallica anymore or radio rock/metal at all...but it's kind of funny remembering all the trash can tin noises Lars had going on and how incredibly GarageBand this sounds. It's almost kind of enjoyable in that "oh man, what is this...." kind of vibe.

Regrets recording and buying that album. The artwork was awesome, the title track was good and the album title is awesome but the CD, as well as the band mostly, sucks big time.

I don't know what's wrong with me: I keep sneaking listens of this on my ipod.
The guitar sounds, the instrumentation, the production, all sound phenomenal.
Some of the riff style and guitar playing are right out of Helmet, one of my favourite bands.
The arrangements and songwriting are also in places very tight and compelling.
Yet the whole thing is ruined by waaaay too much cheese: cliched ideas, excessive slickness, overly dramatic vocals, a general sonic conservatism and monotony that gets boring really fast.

Empty Spaces is my favorite Pink Floyd song by far, even if it is just shy of two minutes. The alternate What Shall We Do Now? is also phenomenal.

There's an awesome cover of it by the California band Astra that is somehow a marriage of both songs, it's on the last page of the Floyd thread here.

Been listening to Hendrix all night. "If 6 Was 9" is not my favorite, but it's probably the strongest statement of flower power that still resonates today. It's probably worth a deeper writ than that, but I'm certainly not the one to do it.

Such a great record. Probably the best rap record in recent years. The production is fantastic. Really dusty and grimey, familiar yet original. He has great lyrics and flow. very subtle. You think hes just mumbling but then you listen to what he is saying and its great. He has the same topics of thuggin, drugs, flash BUT he presents it in a different way than a Rick Ross or someone. Highly recommended.
