I figured Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/) should deserve it's own thread, especially for keeping up with updates and sales. There's currently an Autumn sale going on, I'll post the daily deals in the first post. We could arrange game nights or figure out what we all play over Steam, as well as find people for trades or to join in on group-buys for the packs they sell.

WINTER SALE HAS ARRIVED.

Never buy something unless it is a daily deal, as that is the cheapest they will go. If you want something, wait and see if it becomes a daily deal, and if it doesn't , get it at the end of the sale to be sure you got the best deal. :D

Was really hoping that Skyrim would be on this final Thanksgiving/Black Friday sale day. Still, maybe it will be on Cyber Monday or during the Christmas craziness also known as, the time where people buy countless games they will never play.

Hello there. Steam has lower prices in my country. Might offer gift purchases. You might save 10-15 bucks, i might make 2-3 bucks, all 100% legal.
Questions preferably via private messages (my steam username is the same as here, but i'm mostly offline)

note for mods: if you think this message is spam, please contact me and i'll explain why it is not. peace

I don't really know where to put this, but since I'm playing it on Steam - I thought I'd place it here:

I've been playing the Telltale Games for the 'Back to the Future' series and they've been pretty fun. I love hearing the voice acting - since Christopher Lloyd reprises his role and the guy they hired to voice Marty made even my mom swear it was Michael J. Fox. I've been a fan of the Monkey Island series, but had never checked these out... but now that I'm playing them, I definitely recommend them to anyone who enjoys riddle/plot based point and go adventures.

I just bought The Binding of Isaac for 99p. It's fantastic!

I'd been holding off for ages, even though it is pretty widely acclaimed. If you don't know about it, it's basically a twin-stick shooter with permadeath in semi-randomly generated dungeons. You play an abused child who is trying to escape his mother who is trying to sacrifice you, where your main weapon is your tears. Yes. Lots of interesting powerups, very addictive.

Definitely worth a go for that price.

The thing I love about Steam is they make old games playable on your PC - so I managed to get old favourites, Wolfenstein 3D, Dark Forces, and Heretic to play with sound as well. I really can't be bothered faffing around making old games work on new systems, so I love that they do it for you, a value added service.

One question I have though is, I have Far Cry which I love, but I can't get it to play properly graphically on Vista or Windows 7 - has anyone got this from Steam and, if so, does it play well without the glitches?

Most of the games at least have the backing of the publishers, (at leas I know EA has a deal with GoG for remastering and selling Bullfrog's old games). I like them, most of the games have been optimized to run on modern operating systems, but I do wonder where a good chunk of the sales go, as most of those companies don't exist anymore.

WorzelG

Yeah, the steam version sadly doesn't have any soundtrack included but I remember there were many ways to get it working. Have a look at this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1756923

Picked up Half Life 2: Episode 1 a month or so ago, from a second hand store. Now, I only paid $3 for it, so I'm not out much, but it still pisses me off that when I emailed their support when it didn't work they said "sorry, you're S.O.L.". Thanks, this is why piracy will always exist.

Oh, and also, FUCK YOU FOREVER for making me have to have an internet connection to play a game. I use my landlord's wifi signal, which lately is unreliable AT BEST. So now I have to wait until I can troubleshoot the connection for sometimes an hour just to entertain myself with a game? FUCK. YOU.

My grabs this Summer:

Tiny and Big: Grandpa's Leftovers $0.99

Batman: Arkham City (GOTY edition) $4.99
Bioshock Infinite $7.49
Trine + Trine 2 $3.74
System Shock 2 $1.49
Goat Simulator $5.99
To The Moon $2.99

Total: $34.74 for 8 games, 3 of which were AAA titles from last year.

Haha! I just got it a different way. Jumped on the fans/vents on the building behind it, ragdolled onto the roof of the container, then walked backwards off the front and used the jetpack to shoot myself inside. I tried for ages with that trampoline and had no luck, got close by hitting those vents accidentally so I gave that a few tries and got it in like 5 mins.

Anyone pick up Age of Empires 2? This brings me back! I want to try out the steam multiplayer added in the new expansion. It was on sale yesterday. Got a bunch of others too. Looks like I know what I'll be playing all year early.

I'm humancentipad3 if anyone wants to play. Let me know who you are if you add, I usually ignore randoms.

Steam really pisses me off sometimes. Bought a copy of Rage at Value Village, so it's used. Only $3, but I didn't realize it was a Steam-authenticated game, so because the code has been activated once before, it's now a paperweight.

Grabbed Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Max Payne 1 & 2 and Super Meat Boy on the Winter sale. Loved the first Amnesia and never got around to getting AMfP, and while I know a lot of fans complained about it, I'm interested and got it for something under 5 dollars, so I won't be able to be too upset if I'm not all too enthralled by it. SMB's PC controls are absolutely frustrating and are making me wish I had a gamepad for my laptop, because it just seems essential to it. Tried getting MP1 to work, had sound issues, downloaded a patch, ended up having to spent a good 4 hours running scans and removing malware, so I'm just going to jump to 2 (I've played them before, just didn't have Steam copies).

I'm thinking about picking up a new OLED Steamdeck with dock and controller and headphones mainly to play one game...

Any experience here with one?

I have the old LCD model and I absolutely love it. From what I've heard, the OLED one is even better with battery life, display, weight.

What game are you looking to play?

BattleTech.
When Apple rolled out their new silicon (and the instruction set for it), it broke the game... and since HBS / Paradox aren't going to be investing in the same for my new beast of machine (from last year)... well...

I've put 1400+ hours into the game so far and I can see doing a hell of a lot more. And then I realize that I can play everything else compatible as well... and that's okay too. :)

Video shows how the game is broken....

Nah, the game doesn't really need it at all... some light keyboard functions but the on-screen keyboard will work for that limited input...

Sweet, let me know if you have other questions. I still need to play Battletech, I grew up on Mechwarrior 2-3 but would appreciate the strategy aspect.

I mean, there's still a MechWarrior franchise also going strong but this game is more like how the tabletop BattleTech game plays. I really appreciate that it isn't real time combat... but... saving often until there's high confidence in tactics is advised.
I have 113 of 128 achievements... most of the rest are multiplayer ones and I hope to get there, I just haven't focused on that part as much.

I like tactical stuff but haven't played this much. MechWarrior 5 was OK but it doesn't have the same highs as the earlier stuff.

Did you ever play the old MechAssault by any chance?

Did you ever play the old MechAssault by any chance?

Nope. I'm really not much into gaming as a whole... and real time combat never did much for me...

I don't care about being 1 pilot. :) As the game says... "Life is cheap, BattleMechs are not."
But I'm still neck deep in BattleTech novels, so... a touched biased you might say.

After some time with Steam Deck and DualShock controller for BattleTech... I decided to go for that Logitech 400+ keyboard with trackpad instead.

Oh hell yeah that works well.

I'll worry about the controller again when I eventually play a different game.

That Logitech keyboard+trackpad was the key to enjoying it for that game.

I contacted Steam support last night because my son has been using my account for the past couple years. I asked how it would be possible for him to keep his saves if he created a new account because he's got a ton of time invested in things like HOI4 and others that I don't play at all.

The response was "the Steam TOS specifically says not to account share or transfer ownership so please stop it." whoopsie.

...and they just launch "Families (https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/593110/view/4149575031735702628)" as well... which probably won't help in this situation but maaaaybe

Weird response for your own kid.

But yeah I wonder how the Families thing works with cloud saves. You may have to transfer/manage the saves locally on the PC.
