The weather has been amazing in St. Louis today, I always love going for a walk or a hike whenever new music happens to leak or I finally get a chance to hear something I've been too busy to actually sit down and check out. Did you read the description? That was the "youtube leak" people were referencing - not actually a leak. I mean, there was talk about the album leaking as one full track. I finally got my hands on it by someone who actually thought it was real. So, a week of excitement trying to get someone who's super busy and only has dialup to send 60mb or whatever it was... ended with... that.

The only thing I don't like about Find My Way is all the chitter chatter about praying to the lord. Aside from that, I think it's the best song of the bunch! And when I first heard it live at Lollapalooza I absolutely HATED it. It's one of those songs that gets better the more you listen to it. I'm glad I actually gave it a chance other than Disappointed (can't stand that song), but maybe the studio version will be worlds better. It wasn't until hearing the studio version of FMW that the song REALLY clicked with me. Now I go back and listen to it a few times a day.

Still have not heard Everything, saving that for the first time run though of the album. Felt I listened to more than enough of the album as it is. And if rumors are true and 3 of the remaining songs are instrumentals, that only leaves 7 "lyric" songs left to hear.

People keep saying "Various Methods Of Escape" is an instrumental track, and I can see why. The title totally screams instrumental. But I really want that song to have lyrics, it has one of the most exciting track names out of the bunch.

My friend played The Perfect Drug last night on his speaker system... I kept saying and asking, "This is one of Nine Inch Nails' best songs. Why doesn't Trent like it?"He doesn't care for Ruiner either, I believe. It took time for me to warm up to The Perfect Drug, it's never been a favorite of mine (like Ruiner) but it is a fun song with enough time played between it.

I might not agree with Trent regarding some of his music, but I can understand where he comes from, any artist that is as meticulous as he is has reservations with their own work.

To me, this concert was one of the best performances NIN has ever done. I remember watching it live while posting on ETS and everyone at the time was freaking out about how good NIN was. I found them to be rather lackluster during the first part of the With Teeth tour. Jerome Dillion was MEH and that guy they got to replace him was fucking awful. The addition of Josh Freese and what appeared like the whole band gelling made for an epic, epic performance.

Oh man, I was kinda worried about some of the songs, particularly the ending ones, reading the tracklisting makes them all seem like soft love songs. But after reading that track by track breakdown I am officially PUMPED for this record, PUMPED like I have never been before. I almost started shaking like an addict having withdrawl while reading that review. This album is going to be AWESOME! The way it is described makes it seem like it's a very personal record for Trent, like really returning to the days of pouring his true feelings out from the PHM / Broken / TDS / Fragile days about his inner conflicts.

God, I hope i'm not just setting myself up for a major letdown by reading that and posting this.

Also, after listening to the Live Rehearsal AND Reading Soundboard recordings of "Find My Way" I can see why I didn't like that song from the live version, the studio version is just a million, million times better. It's hard to actually go back to the live version of that song after you've heard the studio version.

I would rather listen to a new song in compressed radio rip form for the first time over reading various musical descriptions about it; I have the presence of mind to imagine beyond these descriptions of sounds in an accurate or innacurate way, nevertheless formulating preconceptions. I'm also a musician. So it is just spoiler. What can't be predicted is if my heart will or won't be moved...but still the elements of surprise add something, I believe.


Funny you mention lyrics, as those wouldn't pose anywhere close to the level of spoiler of musical descriptions for me. I still would choose to not look at any before hearing a song though.
