Saw Peter Murphy last night in Portland. Peter was top notch (other than forgetting the lyrics to the second verse of Hurt). He hit every single note perfectly.

The bad: She Wants Revenge opened, and I'm certain they played the same song for 45 minutes. So goddamn boring.
Sound guy fucked up Peter's vocal effects and they had to stop for about 10 minutes after the second song. Peter unbuttoned his shirt and let people touch his nipples to pass the time.
Peter's drummer was fucking awful. Couldn't keep time for shit, missed beats and kept missing fills. Peter was actually pointing at which drum should be hit on what beat.
Lighting guy kept fucking up, and Peter had to keep telling him to go back to red.

Summary: Peter was great. Everyone else was totally sub-par.

my favorite of all the related projects is easily tones on tail, though bauhaus are equally fantastic. never cared for both love & rockets and the murph's solo career, outside of a few undeniable tracks (cuts you up, life in laralay, etc.).

Just pressed play on a 89-song Bauhaus/Peter Murphy/Tones on Tail/Love and Rockets/David J/Daniel Ash/Kevin Haskins/Dalis Car playlist that I forgot I compiled a while back. Gonna be a good day at work..... :)

(incidentally, can anyone change the damn thread title! "Descendants" just sounds weird. Good punk band, but weird wording in this regard.)

Nercrobump to talk about my recent resurgence of love for Love and Rockets. Haven't listened to them in a long time and I busted out a mixtape of them that I had in my car under a bunch of shit in my dashboard. Nay I say that listening to Kundalini Express at high speeds on the Interstate is fantastic.

Peter Murphy celebrates 35 years of Bauhaus!
Our very good friends at Tombowler are excited to announce that iconic frontman Peter Murphy will be playing the Mr. Moonlight Tour, celebrating 35 years of Bauhaus. Murphy, who has started working with producer Youth (Killing Joke, The Verve) on the follow up to his 2011 critically acclaimed solo effort, NINTH, will play three shows in Australia this December with a full band performing only Bauhaus material. Says Peter, “Since 2006, I have included my Bauhaus work into my solo work as a way of tipping my hat to my own audience… those who discovered my early work as well as new and old fans of those years’ strong wishes to hear the music of my band crackle and spark in the live arena. Being the foremost advocate of this Bauhaus work, I decided the time was ripe to at last give a pure Bauhaus experience in one Mr. Moonlight world tour. Mr. Moonlight is alive and well, don't doubt it.” Bauhaus formed in 1978 and achieved worldwide cult status that continues to this day. As the main man of the acclaimed outfit, Peter Murphy helped usher in ground breaking opaque moods and atmospheres into the post-punk landscape. Bauhaus originally split in 1983, but eventually bowed to public pressure to reform in 1998 and again in 2005. The Mr. Moonlight Tour will be the first time since 2006 that Peter Murphy will perform full Bauhaus sets, and the first time ever that he will do so on his own.

I really like "Bauhaus" and "Love & Rockets", i know a few songs of "Tones on Tail" and i like Pete as a solo act...

I think one of the most interesting Bauhaus-related albums is "Unshattered" by Peter Murphy, the album is a great listen and truly has some beautiful tunes, it's on the vein of Nick Cave and Lou Reed and it didn't really have an impact, i bought ti because it was cheap mostly and i got a pleasant surprise when i played it...

Of note: the 5CD Beggar's Banquet box set that just came out not too long ago has new masters for the Sky's Gone Out and Burning From The Inside, both of which were planned to receive Omnibus editions like In The Flat Field and Mask, but were shelved due to relatively low sales of the first two. I'll be picking that up. The singles CD also has that Spirit In the Sky B-Side from the Sanity Assassin single, so the completist in me will be quite happy with that.

Murphy's Deep is one hell of an album.

Wow, you had a lot to say about either.

They were a favorite band in high school -- saw them on the very last headlining tour they did, but I don't think I've put on one of their records probably since I started this thread.

Love & Rockets' first 4 records are great, and I think Hot Trip to Heaven is underrated. Not very big on Murphy solo. Also, if you haven't already, check out Daniel Ash's Tones on Tail.

*necro bump*

Can't believe nobody has posted in this thread for so long.

Been listening to a lot of Peter Murphy today. Couple of thoughts:

Lion is really good, and the remix version of it might be even better. Does anyone else enjoy the remix version?

i was also listening to the 35 Years of Bauhaus live album and was struck by a comment he makes at the beginning of Severance. Something to the effect of "I'll be releasing Lion soon, an album Bauhaus could have made but didn't so I did." I can't find anything anywhere else in regards to this. Does anyone have any insight or is Murphy just weirdly talking shit and promoting his new solo album?

Well, Bauhaus split right after GAW due to personal conflicts, not any creative differences. They could've easily write much more songs than they had time to finish.

Btw I believe Go Away White is as good as four original albums.

I caught Poptone two nights back here in Montreal. Mostly Tones On Tail material of course, a handful of Love & Rockets songs, one Daniel Ash solo track, a Physical cover (closer to Adam Ant than NIN) and Bauhaus' Slice Of Life which the crowd went absolutely insane for. Diva's great on bass and it was a really fun show. Go if they come near you!

So now you've got Peter Murphy and David J doing a residency together, and Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins touring.

Guys just have another foursome already and keep Peter and Daniel on different buses or something.

One of the incidents that caused the fracturing of Bauhaus last time was largely those two going after each other. IIRC there was an argument, Daniel tried to smooth it over only to be met with Peter literally spitting rose petals into his face in an "I hate you but I love you gesture" which was the last straw.

And so...

Hopefully he doesn’t go downhill again after the troubles he had before. Saw him in Manchester the other week and it was a really good show and he’s still in fine voice! Then the day after Daniel Ash posted ‘cant wait for 2019’ with #bauhaus on Facebook alongside a live Gotham video from 1999 which was promptly deleted. Now I never thought they’d reconcile after the last split but this was quite a tease!

I love how many times Bauhaus has come back from the dead. Apropos! I remember being absurdly excited in 1998 that I'd have a chance to see them play shows.

Wonder if there's any chance of a new album at some point. Sounds like this track was done during the pandemic by just passing around sound files, which doesn't sound like it'd necessarily foment an album-writing impulse, but we can dream. I remain quite fond of Go Away White.

They just added new dates to their tour. I'm finally getting to see them in Toronto in September!

Wish I could do the Boston show, but midweek shows are hard for me to do, living in northern Vermont. Gotta pick and choose which shows I take days off from work for, and I'm already taking a day off the week before for another show. And a midweek show generally means I need to take two days off.

Upcoming North American tour dates have been cancelled as Peter Murphy enters rehab.

Well, color me completely fucking disappointed. It was going to be my first time ever seeing them.
