Not a new thing, but I found the fragile guitar signal path stuck in between my copy of David Carson's Fotografiks book.

This pretty much sold me on the original Line 6 Pod. I owned it until last year, when I finally upgraded my pedalboard and amp to a full tube setup.

oh shit! Is that the same DJ Lee that used to do remixes in the 90's as well?? I remember really liking the version of Metal he made, prior to TFA being released! he used a small leaked sample, and created a couple remixes from it.

Anyone know where I can buy Revolver issue with NIN in it that just came out without dropping $25 in a magazine?

im fine with digital. I just wan to pay, I don’t know, the price of a magazine and not a fricking vinyl album to read an article about my favorite band.

Why not wait until it is released and then check local stores? It is available to pre-order on their website with a $5.00 shipping charge, IIRC.

*Facepalm* Industrial isn't a sub-genre of metal. Who the hell told him that? Industrial started out more as avant-garde experimentation and then started fusing with other genres before becoming more associated with metal.

Not only that, but they're analyzing it based on incorrect and incomplete lyrics. The lyrics the post also completely omit the "Hey God" part, which is fairly essential for a reaction video by a pastor, wouldn't you think?

Edit: I guess he did at least hear the "hey God" part

Old NIN Spotting.

I just finished watching Cronenberg's Videodrome. Without spoiling the film, there are many references towards the end of "the beginning of the new flesh". Reading through the lyrics of The New Flesh again, it seems very much from the perspective of - if not heavily inspired by - the main character in the movie and what happens to him.

Then I found this quote from TR online:

"That's another tough question but some of my favourites would be Blue Velvet, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Taxi Driver. David Cronenberg's Dead Ringers is a Five Star Film though, that just popped into my head. The tone of Cronenberg's films are amazing, particularly that one. It was very inspirational to me in the writing of a couple of albums - The Downward Spiral and The Fragile. It's as well as that sense of dread when you're not sure what's going to happen but you can tell it's just not going to work out. It's not going to have a happy ending and I related to that. His sense of body horror really touched a primal instinct in me. I almost said Videodrome but that's more of a guilty pleasure... I love that movie as well."
Source (https://graffitiwithpunctuation.com/opinion/2014/09/26/trent-reznors-five-star-film-dead-ringers-david-cronenberg-1988)

So yeah, I'm now convinced that this song and Videodrome are linked.

If you're drumming/doing percussion for a band, and have to hit play on a click track or a sample or a tape track, or just scratch your leg or something, it's easier to hold both sticks with one hand and distribute the stick back to your other hand than pick it up from wherever it might fly to if you set it down.

Hope this helps.

Have just read Rob Sheridan's AMA Reddit thing. One question that went unanswered referred to the possibility that The Idea Of You was actually an outtake from the With Teeth sessions - the link obviously being Grohl's drums. Anyone have anything else concrete on this, or is this just idle speculation?

I think that was just speculation. When Not The Actual Events came out, there were a few people who were absolutely convinced that it was comprised of leftovers from previous albums, mainly because of some of the production and the presence of Grohl and Dave Navarro. Personally, I always thought that was incredibly silly. Trent is friends with those guys, so I never understood why it was so inconceivable that they could contribute new material to the EP.

Here's his response: "I should probably not comment any further on that one, it's really not my place to talk about unreleased NIN stuff."

Eh, but how much different is that from how he sounds today? Certainly in a live setting there's a noticeable difference, but on the albums, it's pretty hard to tell. It's certainly not like the difference between Fragile-era Trent and With Teeth-era Trent.

It is my sense that he is more careful with his voice on tour now, handing off the more screamy stuff to Robin, but in the studio he's a little more willing to go for it and shred the cords.

The song that sticks out in my memory, is The Idea of You. It's not just the part where he is yelling, it's everything around that. His voice just sounds younger (maybe lighter is a way to describe it), and both the style of singing (and vocal recording production) is reminiscent of the WT to YZ era.

I for one am hoping that somehow my absurd comments about Nike and Shia LaBoeuf (re: Just Do It) made it in. Granted, I didn't know how serious the project was, or perhaps I'd have contributed something more meaningful.

This show takes place where I live and work. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm in background shots. The pilot was extra weird with it's "You go to work the same way every day" while it pans down 2nd Street, exactly where I walk to work every day.

The Variety writeup said several media companies are pulling out of SXSW, Warner / HBO being one of them. Seems like a corporate liability move and might not have been their decision.

wow this is an extremely “respectable” review! Never thought I’d see a day where Nine Inch Nails are compared to Penderecki, Miles Davis and Jon Hassell in a professional write up. those type of write ups were always more Radiohead’s territory, while NIN’s reviews talked about angst and synths

not that those comparisons don’t have merit, they’re relevant and interesting, I’m just surprised to hear NIN talked about in that context

I think it's hard to set up a decent AV feed right now with no-contact orders, because of the Covid-19 quarantine. This was probably just Zoom or something. Every TV news show has shitty AV right now. Even the satellite feeds are fucked up. Some of them are using FaceTime.

Audio bothers me less than content. It was a perfectly fine interview, but more of the same I guess... I really wish we could get a fan AMA or interview or even just the direct answer thing Trent used to do back before With Teeth came out. I am always frustrated when I read / watch an interview with an artist I like and it just seems like answers to the same types of basic questions as the last 100 interviews. I have no idea how much of that is prepared prior to the interview.

This is a good interview with some interesting insight about the scoring of Watchmen and charming bits (especially from Atticus)
but if you go as deep as to ask about specific tracks in the score (which I’m not saying you should, but he does) how do you not ask about the genesis of the Life on Mars/Careless Whisper covers and *especially* the jazz songs??

I guess at this point, it's kinda redundant. We learn about the process, the environment, but it's all stuff we're already heard from other interviews before. They were nominated/ won awards for The Social Network in 2011, and we're still hearing about how they feel/ their process in 2020. The Watchmen stuff they talked about...I'm fairly certain was covered in another interview? Maybe?

I guess for a listen it was something... but it isn't anything new/ novel in my opinion.

I enjoyed the interview; it was cool hearing them talk about their experiences at the Golden Globes and the Oscars. I also found it very interesting to learn that Nun with a Motherfucking Gun was recorded in Chicago while I was in town for the Cold and Black and Infinite shows. Having said that, I was expecting them to discuss the new Ghosts albums and was a little surprised that they weren't addressed, but I guess it was recorded before those were revealed.

It was also a score-centric interview, so they might not have discussed it because it wasn't relevant to the conversation.

No Leaving Hope? That could easily have replaced Pinion.

I feel that Pinion is so much better in the live (albeit pre-recorded) rendition which slows down over time a la Woodstock 94.

This gets brought up in a similar way every few months (I know I did it last year or the year before) and I back it every time. The build-up there is just off the wall intense. And that was me watching it at home on TV at age 13. I can't what it was like being there.

I know there aren't too many Atticus heads on here, but I've listened to enough of his stuff sans Trent with his wife and brother (which is excellent btw) that I can say with confidence that the Army clip is likely "just" Atticus. Great bit of score. Powerful and expressive in just 30 seconds.

All that said, it's very weird to hear his music for the Army. Mixed feelings. :(

AFAIK that initial part would be the Quasimidi Rave-O-Lution 309 beatbox loop, with the bass-heavy 'bitcrushed' feel, that Charlie is referring to; the rest of the track TR wrote over top of that idea.
