Watching a bit of Deep Space 9 on youtube. Alexander Siddig obviously changed his name during one season, from Siddig El Fadil, but his FULL name is the awesomely long Siddig El Tahir El Fadil El Siddig Abderrahman Mohammed Ahmed Abdel Karim El Mahdi. And Malcolm McDowell is his uncle. And his son with Nana Visitor (Major Kira) is Django El Tahir El Siddig.

    The things you learn...

No; they divorced in 2001. And I completely agree with the major babe part. I was madly in love with Dr Bashir for the whole series.

If you want to watch something else he's been in that's a little less known, try hunting down A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia. It's a tv movie that is a sort of sequel to Lawrence of Arabia. Ralph Fiennes plays Lawrence and he's doing a great job too (although nothing compares to the late Peter O'Toole) and Sid plays Feisal, Alec Guinness' role in LoA. You may want to read a bit on the subject before hand though if only to understand who's who because it can be a bit confusing at times. But it's truly excellent.

As for what I was watching: Secretariat. Yes, it's Disney but it's not too sugary. And it's pretty close to reality. Being as old as I am, I vaguely remember hearing about Secretariat back in 1973 and I remember wanting to be a jockey.

Of course, as good as the movie is, nothing can compare to the real thing. Secretariat ranked second on the list of the top 100 racehorse of the 20th century (although many argue that he should have been first). ESPN placed him at number 35 of the 100 greatest North American athletes of the 20th century and what he did in the video below was placed at number 2 of the Greatest Sports Performances by individual athletes.

Watch it; we're not likely to see something like this in our lifetime. Secretariat's record at the Belmont is still holding after 40 years.

Another fun fact, Alexander Siddig turned down the role of Dr. Baltar on Battlestar because he was too busy with Syriana at the time. So instead they went with James Callis, some say because they kind of look alike. Man, Callis OWNED that role, wore it like a tailored suit.

I really really hope Tarantino gets to direct DeNiro again before either of them retire.

    *edit*

From Dusk Til Dawn tonight. I feel another Tarantino binge coming on...

Also, after Danny Trejo popped up again for like the 5th time in the last 6 movies I've watched, I checked his IMDb page and apparently he's appearing in twenty five films next year. Porn stars don't even do that many movies in a year.

Frozen. Thought it was pretty lame. Reminded me a lot of Brave which I thought had cool characters stuck in a badly written movie. I loved Tangled and Princess and the Frog but this was just incoherent and blah. Good for the kiddies though.

Edit: Also We're the Millers holy shit what a riot. If you like mean spirited comedies you have to watch it immediately. I laughed out loud more times than I can count.

Well, that was incredibly depressing. Honestly, I found it more saddening than Grave of the Fireflies, probably because I could relate to the characters more.

We're The Millers is actually really fucking hilarious. I thought it was about a family going into witness protection but I heard way wrong, almost every scene had me in stitches. Plus, Jennifer Anitson as a stripper? Yes please.

right?! omg I thought they had to pretend to be a family for some other reason too and when I realized it was for smuggling I knew the movie was for me.

    Were you thinking of ?

And Jennifer Aniston should play strippers more, or just be naked in movies more. And by movies I mean my house. And by my house I mean my bed.

Blue is the warmest Color is the type of powerful film that makes you feel alive and make you feel like you can seize the world when you leave the theatre. Its getting a lot of attention for its extremeley explicit lesbian sex scene. I thought the graphic scene made it feel more real and did a lot to draw you in to their relationship. However i will say for about 5 minutes i felt like i was in one of those porno theatres from the 70s, like in taxi driver, weird sitting with two hundred people watching girls rimming and scissoring, the scene is long! but powerful. The main girl in it was amazing, brilliant movie, only gripe is that its three hours long!

Yeah, we just got a stack of The Family blurays and dvds at work because it comes out soon, and when I checked it out I realized I had gotten them confused. Now I'll have to watch that one and see if it holds up!

Gravity in 3D and Captain Phillips. Both excellent. I wasn't expecting that of the latter for some reason but it was just an amazingly done film. Acting was fantastic, directing was incredible and I was an emotional wreck by the end. I thought it was going to be a sort of Amurca rah rah film. Not so.
