agree, it was hypnotic. so beautifully shot. starting at day, the sunset, and finishing at night time, it was perfect. a great set to celebrate 40 years. and as grand a scale it was, it also felt so intimate somehow. Tim Pope did a wonderful job, the band was on fire, and Robert was having a blast. and yeah, his voice is still incredible!
the new album is supposed to be nearly done, apparently long and dark songs. he says it's more like Pornography than anything else, in terms of it's atmosphere. bring it on!
Upon peeking at recent set lists, it feels like Robert is starting to subtly edit the Festival songs so that once it reaches the first few songs prior to the encore, we’re in darker territory, to lead in to the real shows that the hardcore fans want. For example, yesterday in Greece:
- A Forest (dark)
- Primary (from “Faith”)
- Want (“I’ll never really get more hope or any more time”)
- 39 (“two-thirds my life I’ve been here / and the fire is almost cold, and there’s nothing left to burn”)
- Disintegration - speaks for itself

Simon had some kind of personal situation and missed the show in Japan tonight, but his son Eden filled in. Glad to see his bass chops run in the family hah.

$22 for the solo blu ray, good value
Kind of annoying Robert is putting so much effort into releasing the 40th anniversary show on blu ray/DVD/CD and yet the Reflections shows sit in his vault somewhere. Those are the shows that should be getting the deluxe package. The 40th anniversary show was a nothing show. No guests and a standard greatest hits pop setlist (no different than the 20 pro shots that have come out this summer with very similar sets) Meanwhile Reflections was promised a blu ray/Cd box set 8 years ago and nothing. The greatest setlists they have ever played was on Reflections....And nothing

Respectfully I disagree. I'm sorry the Reflections shows project seems dead. But the anniversary show was a fantastic performance, and the fact it's turned into a physical release in a little over a year is really encouraging for other things to come. That "standard pop set list" had several deep cuts that I can't wait to hear on this presentation again: Burn, If Only Tonight... Heck, as interesting as it is that they played "do the hansa" once on reflections, I'd take a stellar performance of "just like heaven" over that any day.
theatrical release too, and rumoured to be dolby atmos soundtrack. Pretty amazing if true. And the curaetion show thrown in too.
A professional recording of "It Can Never Be the Same" is worth the price of admission here. If the new album is anywhere near how amazing that song is, then I think it's gonna be a great one.
I got a pre order email. UK pricing is £22 for the blu ray, £60 for the deluxe blu ray. Questions answered:
* CD and video track listings are the same: all are the full shows
* video and audio will be sold digitally too
Questions not answered
* will the dvd or blu ray have a stereo audio track and if so will it be the same mix as the cd
* what's in that booklet
I'm leaning towards standard blu ray release and either DIY audio rip of it or digital audio purchase.
also wondering if there's any special features on the dvd/blu ray
Would love to see Robert actually do this live in album order with the b-sides at the end, like compiled here. And The Top, but in order (has been done complete but out of order before) with that era’s b-sides also.
Sal (from Type O Negative) is releasing a 7" with a cover of Prayers For Rain with his band A Pale Horse Named Death, as posted here:

Disintegration from the upcoming Meltdown/CURÆTION-25 film.
Friday I'm in Love from the upcoming Hyde Park/40th Anniversary film.

New article out. Working album title is 'Live From The Moon'. Still planning a 2019 Release!

The more I hear him talk about the new album, the more I am stoked. If this is on Pornography levels of darkness, this will be epic
That’s so sad and interesting at the same time -
He continued: “It’s very much on the darker side of the spectrum. I lost my mother and my father and my brother recently, and obviously it had an effect on me. It’s not relentlessly doom and gloom. It has soundscapes on it, like ‘Disintegration’, I suppose. I was trying to create a big palette, a big wash of sound.”
Smith added: “The working title was ‘Live From the Moon’, because I was enthralled by the 50th anniversary of the Apollo landing in the summer. We had a big moon hanging in the studio and lunar-related stuff lying around. I’ve always been a stargazer.”

I pre-ordered the standard Blu-ray but I’m really wondering if I should have gone for Dulux… Might change my order. wish I had more information about the difference
Funny, I'm having the exact opposite feeling. I'm not sure if 4 CD's and whatever kind of exclusive "book" is worth the extra ~$50 and am almost kind of wanting to just change my order to the regular Blu-ray (which in itself seems like a waste as I'd be more than happy just using streaming services if it's gonna just be on Netflix or whatever)
The Cure have not just one new album in the works...apparently they have three on the go.
Personally I just want new music but this is indeed promising news.
I'll just say that after nearly two decades of anywhere from half-to-completely unfilled promises (album remasters which did happen but have taken 15+ years longer than stated, DVDs and/or Blu-Rays of Show and In Orange, any kind of video release of Reflections, 4:14 Scream, Top/HOTD/Kiss Me tour) I'm not believing a word of what comes out of Robert Smith's mouth. He could have twenty albums worth of stuff done or being worked on, but it's safe to say no one's hearing any of it anytime soon.
/pessimistic view
Yeah, less talkin’, more releasin’.
We will see "three new Cure albums" right around the time we see Bird Box Deluxe and The Fragile 5.1 20th Anniversary Edition, i.e. don't hold your breath. Bob has been spinning this same tired yarn since 2005, and the only thing that has materialized was their worst album to date..
Last month he was claiming in interviews that he was struggling to complete vocals for an eight-song album, and now this month he suddenly has three albums near completion? I'm not buying that for a second. We will be lucky if we see a new Cure album with 8 songs on it by Halloween 2020..
In more positive news, the live dvd is shipping very soon. Here’s Tim pope’s copy

I remember Robert saying in the late 90s how he was going to release a dark electronic "Nine Inch Nails influenced" record....Pre Wild Mood Swings he said he was going to release an acoustic record....A couple years ago in a drunken online post he said he was releasing the "4:13 Scream" album....I am not even convinced he will release 1 new album, let alone 3...Robert is worse than Trent when it comes to announcing things that never see the light of day. Wouldnt shock me one bit if he is doing interviews in 6 months talking about how he "shelved" the new album because he deemed it too depressing etc
Three albums ? I wonder how Dream 4:14 is coming along...
