i just had a moment - i have an original copy of wish on vinyl that i paid a lot for about 8-9 years ago. i put it up on discogs just now for $160 (a steal) and it sold within two minutes, paid and all. i just refunded the guy bc i feel like i want to keep mine after all, but i also want to get a reissue copy of it, as i'm sure the vinyl will sound much better, so long as it's a good, non-problematic pressing. i just don't have space for both these days.

i feel pretty crummy about pulling the football away from this poor dude, but...

I once clapped eyes on a copy of wish, asking price was £200. This was in Newcastle, UK. The shop later told me it was sold to someone in Japan

I drove by my record store & hit the sweet spot where it wasn't crowded. I've got my cd & gave it the car stereo test. FTEOTDGS is stunning!

Got my CD copy in hand now! Been busy with the family this weekend and haven't had time to give it a proper listen but I can't wait and I'm glad to see it getting praise. Wish has always been a personal favorite of mine. Letter to Elise was one of the first Cure tracks I loved and I got to hear them play it live a few years back. Can't wait to hear the new FTEOTDGS too!

The last song on disc 3 is a really stunning live version of "End" from Paris 1992. Super heavy.

I wonder, is it from the same show as the Paris live album? I love that album and have always preferred it over Tape.

I'm not sure about the show. It says unreleased version in the album notes.

I think it may be but I'm not sure how many Paris shows they played in 92. Sometimes live albums don't include the whole set and End isn't on Paris but I thought it could be from that show.

I wish they would've put out the whole show with the Paris record. I've got the long version of Show but as good as that is the Paris release was better IMHO.

I REALLY hope those two get the remaster deluxe treatment. I mean Mixed Up got it so I wouldn't say it is impossible.

The less said about the Mixed Up remaster the better. I really like the original Mixed Up record but wasn't too wild about the 2 new discs for the most part. The original is one of my favorite driving around on a sunny day records.

Mixed Up was my first Cure album so I have some deep affinity for it as a whole. I actually prefer the mixes of "Lullaby" and especially "Fascination Street." The second disc wasn't really great for flow, but had some good 12'' mixes that were nice to have elsewhere in digital form (some I only had vinyl rips I made myself). Torn Down was a great idea in theory, but terrible in execution. I sold my picture disc I got and digitized on RSD. Why Robert didn't get some bands that are close to them (Mogwai, Cranes, etc.) to remix the tracks is a total mystery...

I don't have anything against Mixed Up but I very rarely want to revisit it. Paris and Tape on the other hand I listen to all the time.

My wish copies arrived finally! Just realised I haven’t read anything about the quality of the remastering. Fingers crossed

The digital album art for the deluxe reissue has the frosted “deluxe” wraparound at the bottom but the physical cd doesn’t. From what I remember it was printed on mixed up, and missing from the version of THOTD i bought. Although I think disintegration has it weirdly? Could be remembering wrong.

I’m idly wondering if I could 3d print some kind of wrap around. I’ve also tried in the past to find other deluxe albums with wraparounds at bargain basement prices so I could swap them off, no joy

It was always the UK versions that had the “deluxe edition” written on the external slipcase, and the US versions had a cardboard outer slipcase just with the regular album art. I stopped buying them at Disintegration, but that was the case with all of the preceding ones.

I've got all the deluxe editions. Disintegration is awesome because you get Entreat as 1 of the discs. The bad thing is the remasters that were done in 2006 weren't that great. The new one for Wish is far superior. I'm not sure what Robert's involvement was on the previous remasters but he was heavily involved with this one. Wish is so good that it made me reevaluate my place for Wish in the Cure pantheon. My top 2 are still Disintegration & Kiss Me X3 (underrated) but Wish is creeping up there.

Yeah I have Disintegration deluxe and mine is also just the regular art. I don't like the "deluxe" slapped on the art really. Even in my digital versions I change it back to the original art.

I have always love Entreat and the bonus disc for Disintegration. And I'm always being quiet about it because all I ever see is Cure fans bitch about how Entreat was ruined on that release. But fuck it, I like it. It sounds good to me.

And I actually like the remasters from 2006. Especially Faith. Faith is the only Cure record I have an original cd pressing of and still I prefer the newer master. But all the remasters basically became the definitive versions for me. Then again, my usual listening setup is as simple as it gets. Two bookshelf speakers, no sub. Old school stereo and I love it. I'm also not really an audiophile but I do like to compare masters and mixes of records I love.

And I love Wish but I would have to think about where I'd include it in the pantheon. I've always seen it as a sister record to Disintegration. With Disintegration being far superior but Wish is still so good. Maybe I'd have mine...

    1.Pornography
    2.Disintegration
    3.Faith
4.Bloodflowers (yeah I know, fuck off, it's a personal favorite lol)
    5.Wish

I'm pretty big on Pornography, Faith & Bloodflowers too. Bloodflowers is severely underrated. I'm also partial to Head on the Door. That was the first one I got really into. Something about Kiss Me X 3 appeals to me. Have you listened to the new remaster of Wish yet? It's absolutely stunning!

Yeah, tbh there's not really a Cure album I don't like. It's just a matter of which I like more.

I gave Wish the car test and also listened to it on my bookshelf speakers. Overall I really like it. It is much brighter and there seems to be more separation in the tracks. Less muddy. And of course louder. Some songs have a different feel to them. I may have dialed down some of the brightness in the highs though. I have never liked treble, for me it's all about the mids. The low end in this mix seems to have been changed the least. But idk, I'm no sound engineer.

All the remasters I have up to Disintegration had the thin cardboard sleeve that's just the album cover up front - I think depending on territory, maybe the EU ones had a plastic Deluxe Edition one like the TDS remaster had? Not sure.

I forget if Mixed Up did or didn't, but it's driving me nuts that this one has nothing.

Thanks it definitely seems to be a regional thing. The 2004 era remasters in the UK had a thick plastic sleeve with the “deluxe” bit frosted like in https://i.scdn.co/image/ab67616d0000...ce890c43665bc9

Later issues (2006 onwards? I’m not sure) started cutting costs and the sleeve was removed, replaced with either a sticker of the frosted region or incorporating it into the album art on the cardboard itself (urgh)

Edit: this seems like an example of one of the cheaper approaches https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/374374887040?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=GfGrxN8CRoC&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=2FjElhNxTf 2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

And this looks like the original style removable sleeve. I forgot it also has the track listing on it for the bonus CDs, I think that’s true for the cure ones too. They’re in my loft, I’ll have to check next time I’m up there https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285050740424?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=PzZDl0p0Swe&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=2FjElhNxTf 2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

It’s weird that they included the “deluxe edition” frosted sleeve in the digital artwork but have abandoned it on physical copies. Kind of annoying if you’ve bought all of them from the UK from the start and want to keep them all uniform.

I was looking on the Cure site at tour merch. I'm happy to say that their pricing is similar to NIN, very fan friendly. $25 for t-shirts is totally fair. I bought a few things at the recent Flaming Lips show & their pricing was fan friendly, too. I just refuse to spend $50 for a t-shirt. That's what RHCP & Roger Waters were charging on recent tours.

This remaster really is damn incredible. The original was mastered so fucking poorly I genuinely feel like I've been listening to the new album for the first time ever again with this release.

Unrelated sort of but... a family member of mine is head of security/ushering here at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. He tells me stories frequently about sales from merch. As you know, when a shirt is $35 in the U.S. for example, when a tour stops here for a show it's easily $40 or $45 etc. He told me about both RHCP and the Waters stops... each time (and especially when it's some mainstream act like Harry Styles, etc.)... six figures of merch sales. Easily.

The lines for RHCP merch were huge for the whole show. It never ended. I didn't really check Waters but I could see the booths on the floor for RHCP the whole show. It's an important revenue stream for smaller bands. Like Particle Kid had a separate line at the Flaming Lips show & the lady was travelling with the bands handling it for Micah Nelson. The shirts were cool, designed by Micah. She was also selling cds. I bought a bunch (for me) of NIN merch. The prices were realistic & the designs & quality good.
