The latest Blank & Jones "So80s" compilation album (#9) features "Touched by the hand of dub" (full 12" b-side mix) which I think is a digital debut.

so the actual audio on the versions of unknown pleasures, closer, and still is exactly the same as what's on the reissues from 2007? that's...weird. i guess it's nice that they're 180g, though. i'm a sucker so i'm probably going to buy all of them, even though i just FINALLY got my hands on a vinyl version of substance (that sounds pretty good).
edit: the ones from 2007 are 180g. so the only difference is the packaging? substance is totally worth getting, then, but the others? probably not. :|

It's kinda frustrating that there are no differences, but really, what could they do? Have mastering techniques improved significantly since 2007? Have the master tapes been recovered / something else that wasn't the case at that time, or was that mastering particularly bad? I don't know. At this point, I don't think there's really anything extra they could possibly do to enhance the audio beyond what we've got already. A repressing means an opportunity for people who don't already have it to buy it, I suppose.
(As a side-note, since the Japanese mastering of H&S is widely considered to be the best available mastering ever made, I'm always surprised they haven't used it for digital re-issues.)
The 'extras' are uninteresting to me (and describing the Pennine LWTUA as 'rare' is laughable IMHO). As a business model, they're going to continue to re-issue Joy Division until the end of time, and they'll leak out another exclusive on each reissue, or each other reissue, but the actual value of the exclusives is already beyond my personal interest water-line. The good shit has been out for decades already
I've been in a bit of an anti-deluxe-edition frame of mind recently. The other day a friend of mine recommended a Pulp album that I hadn't heard. HMV had it for £3, or £9 or £10 for a deluxe edition 2-disc reissue. I started to think, no doubt it's a great album. There was a market to put out the special edition. And that's not a bad price for a special edition. But it's a great price for a basic album. And at the end of the day, that's the bit - the bit in common - that is lauded.
So every time something like this happens for Joy Division it kind-of reinforces that frame of mind for me, and when I next listen to Unknown Pleasures it will probably be my UK issue H&S rip (unless I've tracked down the JPN one, and I'm still tempted to try the HDtracks release but I'm skeptical) or possibly my '07 era vinyl (don't own the original, decided not to bother tracking it down either: the '07 release is fine audio-wise) and I'll listen to every note and more importantly to the gap between the notes, and I'll think back over the whole JD story, and when the last song finishes I'll turn it off and nothing they can do now will improve on that.

Analog Loyalist has gently remixed LWTUA based on what are purported to be multitracks, probably derived from Rock Band or similar:

Music Complete is out 9/25 via Mute on CD, download, and clear vinyl. There’s also a $1008LP deluxe multi-colored vinyl version that includes the album plus extended versions of all 11 tracks.
Man, maybe New Order will tour here again like in 2012 and bring Depeche Mode along with them (the latter haven't been here since bloody 1994) since they're both on the Mute label now!
BBC 6 music programme about Power, Corruption and Lies http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b061xzlv
Also Stephen Morris was on 6 Music's afternoon programme last week and yours truly had a question read out. It went something like this
Yeah I didn't think it was *that* bad a guess, myself...STUART: Jonathan Dowland wants to know, Stephen, whilst you are here, who is doing backing vocals on Run 2? He thinks it's (deadpan) Shaun Ryder.
(pregnant pause)
STEPHEN: If it sounds like Shaun Ryder, you've got a defective copy. Take it back! It's definitely not Shaun Ryder.
STUART: I didn't think it was.
Oh yeah, what else. He identified which track that teaser is, it's "Superheated". I think. Unless I've remembered wrong.
Edit: wasn't Superheated. It was "Unlearn This Hatred".

New Order- Restless (Official Audio)
New Order, Iggy Pop, Steve Coogan mark anniversary of Tony Wilson's death in tribute video - watch

Hooky is being a monumental teenage-like prick about the new single, new album and that "justice will be served" about them illegally using the New Order name because he isn't a part of the band... even though they still played as New Order when Gillian left years ago. Read the part about what his wife says to him too:
http://forums.neworderonline.com/def...g=posts&t=2898
I want to punch him after reading all that.
Not long to go before this is released or leaks.
Technically we won't hear it all completely though til November when the extended mixes of all the tracks become available as well with the box set.
The complete track times for the Restless CD single are:
1. Restless (Single Version) (04:31)
2. Restless (Extended 12" Mix) (08:14)
3. Restless (Agoria Remix) (06:48)
4. Restless (xxxy Build Up Mix) (06:47)
5. Restless (RAC Mix) (06:44)
6. Restless (Andrew Weatherall Remix) (07:47)

Dat intro!
I pre-ordered the HD download and I can't wait for this album to drop!
I might buy a physical version at my local cd shop when it releases.
I'm kinda sad that the extended versions of the songs are vinyl only. I'm guessing its just extended intros and outros for the songs.
Is buying the single on cd the only way to get the remixes?
Btw my favorite remix of restless so far is the Agoria remix.
...just received link from Warner to download "HD" Plastic.flac, 150 MB, nice.
@ziltoid I'm sure the extended versions are going to be made available digitally as well as on vinyl.
Really enjoying Music Complete. The best NO album since Republic IMO. "Singularity" and "Plastic" slay.
Music Complete. After first listen (headphones, dark room, closed eyes, rainy evening): very good! Starts good, then around 4th track (I do not remember the names yet) I was losing interest a bit and thinking too much about maybe adding more reverb or bass or something, then around 6th it got MUCH better with more guitars and complexity and layers, then a bit weaker in Unlearn this hatred (this name I remember), but then there was something EPIC afterwards. Very comprehensive review, is it not. :-) And strange, what I wanted to listen to afterwards? "I`ve got a feeling", from Lost sirens. And then Music Complete again. Feels to be more speaker album than headphones though. And I would love to have an instrumental version!
Edit: Three days later... Music Complete is super!
