This argument always amuses me because I see fans post all over how much they enjoyed seeing a show. I almost never see these complaints anywhere but here.
oh don't get me wrong, they still got my money and I'll still enjoy the show.

But I can also take a step back and look at things objectively; I'll also "vote with my dollars" by seeing only 1 show instead of 3.

I'd go watch the current setlist in a heartbeat... and multiple times too... if Tool would bother to drag their lazy asses to Europe at least once in past 8 years.

I mean, I guess that's kinda my point. The band isn't really playing for the 3 show crowd. Some bands do, I get that. Tool has tons of lighting and visuals that play into what they're doing. I feel like you know what kinda songs you're going to get if you go to a Tool show repeatedly. Although even a really play-it-by-ear band like QOTSA has their touchstones.

    Tool

I think the getting kicked out for taking photos thing is kinda fuckin' stupid but I get the "Put your phones away" mindset and I really like it.

Like, for real. You're in that moment to be in that moment. The lights are washing over you, the video is playing, the music is so loud you can barely hear yourself shouting so you feel totally different.

It took me awhile to appreciate (and maybe being an old helped) but sometimes it is like put away the damn phone and spend time at the zoo with your kids. Sure, get a couple shots for posterity. But you're not there to record the show. Nor are you, the person at home, experiencing the same euphoria that people in that audience are feeling.

That's why no one but you guys give a fuck about the set list anymore.

Well, they did break out that amazing rendition of intolerance a few years back...too bad it only stayed for 1 year.

I don't want to see/know the setlist before hand (Yeah, I caved and bought tickets to the Vancouver show), but can someone attending a show snap a photo of the merch booth and tag me in it? I want to see the t-shirt selections before the show. Thanks!

I'd be fine with a set like this since I've still yet to see them, but they really seem like a band where for the time being if you see them once you've seen the entire tour (and then some). It's predictable, it's boring and when they're a band so steeped in silence and delays it just adds to the overall apathetic attitude that a lot of people think they have these days.
I agree with and share your overall sentiments regarding the stale setlist, but what's this "live release with new songs" you speak of? There is no official live Tool release.

    Salival doesn't count?

And "Cold and Ugly" and "Jerk-Off" on Opiate are both live tracks.

I have plenty of friends that are hardcore Tool fans who have seen them repeatedly that are bored as hell with their sets and none of them use any forums that I am aware of. Disliking setlists doesn't preclude you from liking a show. There are plenty of bands I've seen where I've had a good time despite a weaker setlist. I don't know why it is you feel the need to dismiss everyone you don't agree with and constantly defend a band that just wants you to spring for their $300 light refreshments meet and great package when you can't get normal tickets because of bots.

This was the first year I was able to get normal, excellent tickets for many shows. So I do think Tool is starting to wear out their ATM machine.

Okay, yes, there are some (7) live tracks on two releases, though I wouldn't exactly consider Salival a "live release" as much as a compilation of live tracks, previously unreleased tracks, & outtakes. I thought you were talking about a proper/more traditional live album/video release (like ATCHB or BYIT). Either way, thanks for clarifying.

I was there and it was kinda boring.

Maynard sounded fine except Vicarious sounded horrible.

Glad I finally got to see Third Eye.

Sorry Fairfax fans, y'all got fucked.

I predict this is going to be like the time I went to 4 NIN shows in a vain attempt to get the assault playlist.

    yes, yes it is.

Related: I'm going to 3 shows now. This might be the only touring cycle they play that song in this decade (ref: Intolerance)

Maynard sounds pretty good on this. If you didn't tell me the year, I would have guessed this was recorded around the Lateralus period.

I mean, compare it to this performance:

it's pathetic that one song (eulogy) can get me to rethink going to an entire show, alas they've returned to old faithful. must've scared themselves straight with the first significant change in 15 fucking years.
