On the other hand, just as with AIC, my biggest problem is having a new singer who sounds a lot like the old one. To me, that cheapens the artistry of it. I don't mind them continuing with the same band name, I get it, but it makes it feel like a cover band. I want to hear musicians go into new territory and towards something, and it's just the opposite of that.
Few bands did this transition well in history, Joy Division comes to mind, and in a strange way I always thought of Velvet Revolver as GnR with a new singer (I know it's not quite accurate, but that's what it feels like) and it worked, Slash brought his signature style and it felt very "hair metal" at places, but it was a new band and it was its own thing.
