Almost started this thread myself a day ago. Thanks for this. Hail Ryan.
IWFY:
See I keep lying to myself
See I could die into myself
Surely I kept thinking to myself: "What the fuck does that even mean? Oh well. Trent's gonna Trent."
Holy Shit. I thought he was singing "see I could die into myself" too! Had to look up the lyrics to verify I was wrong. WTF??? Mind has been blown.
Your reaction of "Trent's gonna Trent" is awesome too.
My own misunderstood lyric, when I was younger (and smaller) I used to think the opening line to Last was "raise up, kinda bigger and now" instead of "gave up trying to figure it out". But he was really angry when he sang that song....always shouting, that younger Trent.
Edit: the first ten times or so that I listened to Terrible Lie, I thought the chorus was "Tell the Lie!", which still makes sense. And my fiance' thought that the pre-chorus whisper scream of "God Given" was saying "Goddamnit!" We were singing along and cleaning and I had to stop the track and ask her what she sang. Good times.

I heard something similar on my first listen, except I heard "See, I could die and kill myself."
When YZ first came out, even though I knew it wasn't what he was saying, on Meet Your Master when he says "Count down to the end" I just heard "Downtown Julianne." Which, to me, sounds like the nickname of a prostitute in the 70s.
When Closer was the new song on the block I told my cousin that the line "You can have my isolation" was "You can have my masturbation" simply to see him swear that I was wrong and try his hardest to convince me that it was indeed isolation. I'm surprised he took the bait every single time, since when we got the album we both sat down and followed along with the lyrics in the booklet.
Reptile:
Angels bleed from the tainted touch of microwaves
Win!
Head like a hole
Black-edged saw
is how I heard the HLAH chorus for years. Picturing a chainsaw with dried bloodstains on its blade.
Also,
Kinda like the fire I was up way up in the sky
from Down In It. I thought it was a reference to that alien abduction movie Fire in the Sky (although it was only a book back in the late 80's).

Last - This isn't built to last! This is for right now! (That actually doesn't sound bad to me at all.)

I was convinced Terrible Lie was Kill The Lights when I first heard it.

Down In It: long ago, I used to hear the line "I WAS UP ABOVE IT!" as "*something* *something* BULLET!" I just phonetically sang along to whatever came before "bullet".
Meet Your Master (in the end) : "Hey, show me around the bend ! " (it repeats, I don't know the right lyrics).
Copy of A : " Bended with a punk ass/A punk ass that's become quite clear today "
EIETS : " Can't remember how this got stallin' "
The best ones I have ever read/heard about are "What have I become, my Swedish friend?" and "This isn't mental ass, this is for right now." I wish Trent would release NIN t-shirts that said stuff like "My Swedish friend" and "Mental Ass!" on them. I would be so happy.
'i think i used to have a porpoise' - ediets 'i think i used to have a purpose'
'the holding and the divide' - thtf 'the holy and the divine'
Speaking of THTF, I always hear "You're keeping in step, In the line" as "You're keeping in step, and in line."
'i am a fat boy and i will swallow it all, swallow it all, swallow it all, swallow it all.' - the collector 'i am a good boy'
There is also a part of Last in the background chorus that sounds like: Goddamn slut! (Not that it is!)
Oh I thought of another!
Perfect Drug: "... your wretched dragon's shaking me!"
I had to correct a friend of mine with this issue quite some time ago.
-- on singing Wish over the jukebox: "We're sharing something real; we're sharing something true"
Now that is just fabulous, best misheard lyric ever. I'm now imagining Count Trentula from The Perfect Drug video fighting a dragon to win back his lady-love, or maybe like his niece or whoever she's supposed to be.
Best I can offer is the first part of the chorus of Survivalism: instead of
I got my propaganda I got revisionism I got my violence in high def ultra-realism
I always hear:
I've got lots of Pokemon
I've got room for shit-nizzle
SLAVE SCREAMS is now FIRST GRADE or TASTES GREAT

Just remembered, back in the early days of PHM I always heard "Got money, I'll do anything for you" on HLAH.
While I`m Still Here:
`Wish it didn`t`
Heard as:
`Where`s your dad at`
Oh, and I also misheard this in Somewhat Damaged: So embossed in all you do, tried so hard to be like you.
