Haven't watched the video yet, but I was surprised that the song is pretty good! I didn't like a lot of their later material, so it's something I didn't expect.

In celebration of me scoring the vinyl Mellon Colllie vinyl set for like half price, let me randomly say that the track 'Here Is No Why' is fucking amazing. That is all.

At least the new vinyl reissue is the CD tracklisting. The original vinyl was a completely different order. The CD track order is a million times better. The old vinyl tracklisting's flow was all off. It seems Billy agrees as well and I'm glad he went with the CD order for the vinyl reissue

i feel very conflicted on whether or not to hang on to my set. i finally listened to it a few months ago and it has all the audio issues that seemed to be widespread in the US pressing, which makes me less likely to listen to it. i also have the big CD box set version. but i'm such a weirdo and a stickler for collecting things that i'm having trouble justifying letting it go :/

if i ever do decide to sell it, you'll be the first to know, and i'll give you a good price (it's in NM condition all around and, obviously, only played once)

MusicVaultz.com had a summer sale to clear out some stock I guess. Had it for $49.99 USD (here in Canadiananada it retails for like $109.99).

I've been listening to Mellon Collie a lot the last week or so and I was just thinking maybe a day or two ago that "Here Is No Why" is probably my favorite song on that album. It's seriously awesome.

At this point I would say I only like about half the album, maybe a little more than half, but the songs I like on it I REALLY like.

Here Is No Why is a pristine masterpiece. I love the arrangements, the vocals, the guitar tones, everything...

It would rank very high on my list of best SP songs (along with Soma, Eye, Ruby, For Martha, Geek, Drown, Porcelina, and Stand Inside).

I’ll post more in the morning.

Do you remember what time they hit the stage? There's no opener, right?

    The Smashing Pumpkins

    Last night’s setlist:

    Disarm
    Rocket
    Siva
    Rhinoceros
    Space Oddity (David Bowie cover)
    Drown
    Zero
    The Everlasting Gaze
    Stand Inside Your Love
    Thirty-Three
    Eye
    Soma
    Blew Away
    For Martha
    To Sheila
    Mayonaise
    Porcelina of the Vast Oceans
    Landslide (Fleetwood Mac cover)
    Tonight, Tonight
Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeppelin cover)
    Cherub Rock
    1979
    Ava Adore
    Try, Try, Try
The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning
    Hummer
    Today
    Bullet With Butterfly Wings
    Muzzle

    Encore:
    Solara
    Baby Mine (Disney cover)

The band was really into it. Lots of smiles. Not much chatter (James joked around a bit), but they seemed happy to be there.

I’ll be honest: my expectations were pretty low, but my jaw hit the floor several times. Everyone sounded great.

I want to keep the production side of it spoiler free, but I’m sure there are plenty of videos on YouTube by now, if you’re curious. I’ll just say that the stage changes throughout the show, and that the visuals are very cool. Billy’s affinity for pomp and circumstance is on full display.

If I had to nitpick, there were a couple of lulls where I thought the pacing lagged a bit (though “To Sheila” was a definite highlight), and I thought the encore choices were a bit odd (would rather have seen them end with a barnburner). I also could have done without the vignettes that played between a couple of the more elaborate set changes (let’s just say it involves video of another musician - one I don’t associate with good music - serving as a “carnival barker” type. It was deliberately cheesy, but I thought it was a bit much).

As far as merch goes: lots of shirt selections, from tour date ones to band tees, vinyl (Gish, Siamese Dream, and Melancholy), and some other odds and ends, like a bag, water bottle, koozie, etc. I grabbed a tour poster (with all the dates. They didn’t have a show-specific one).

All in all: wow! If you were on the fence about whether or not to catch this tour, I’d say jump on it.

Metric opened. They started right at 7PM. They sounded good, but the whole theater-style “chairs on the arena floor” thing really worked against them. Everyone sat.

That’s actually one of the things about this show that I absolutely did not like, that I forgot to mention in my last post. I definitely could have done without seats on the floor. I was very close to the stage, but would have loved the freedom to move around.

    Metric played from 7-7:45.

SP hit the stage pretty much right at 8, and played until about 11:15.

I'm just going to get this out of the way now.

During Stairway they apparently take a saint statue around for a little tour and the thing has Corgan's face on it (it's been identified as "Zero" by BC on instagram):

    Merch booth:

Aside from my preferring TEITBITE a great deal more than TBITEITB, and what I think are too many covers (No I Am One is weird) I'm actually looking forward to going to see this. That's a hell of a long setlist.

BC mentioned on one of his instagram posts that there were a few numbers like Starla they were saving for the two-night shows for the second night. Otherwise the setlist is supposed to be static for the whole tour.

These latest posts are a good example of “wait and see” before jumping to conclusions. Wish they would’ve had a Milwaukee date, would’ve loved to get some cheap seats off StubHub.

Never saw them live either so would’ve been totally content with a “greatest hits setlist”.
