It's a bit ridiculous how much time I've spent in the last week just looking at this cover. Michael Mann has directed some of my favorite movies (including my all-time favorite Heat). I'd always hoped they would do one or more of his films (still hoping for Manhunter, but more hopeful now) so this was certainly welcome news. Especially since Thief has been in dire need of an upgrade, considering the only DVD of it now was from 1998 and the transfer is terrible by today's standards. Best Criterion announcement since Thin Red Line for me.

After much deliberation picked up Hunger and Shallow Grave yesterday. Seriously, I had a stack of a good half dozen or more titles before I finally picked these two movies. Will probably pick up The Leopard and the Trois Couleurs collection before the sale ends because it's cheaper than on amazon at the moment.

I just picked up The Ballad of Narayama, The Tin Drum, La Notte, Salo, and the Complete Jean Vigo as I'm also waiting for Schizopolis and L'Eclisse.

I just picked up L'Eclisse and Schizopolis earlier tonight as I'm fucking stoked about the upcoming releases as I definitely want Tess, King of the Hill, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and the 2 upgrades for Jules & Jim and Breathless. I'm also stoked for Blue is the Warmest Color which I saw last Sunday as I'm going to wait out for the special edition version w/ the upcoming extras that is slated for the DVD/Blu-Ray release.

Ugh, still gotta wait til Feb for Blue? Hopefully a torrent will drop before then. La graine et le melet was awesome and Lea Seydoux can be cool. She kicked ass in L'enfant d'en haut last year.

Never seen King of the Hill, is it worth a watch?

I've only seen bits of King of the Hill on TV and actually did meet Jesse Bradford in 2005 at a screening for Happy Endings. It's a film I really hope to see as I plan to do a Soderbergh retrospective for next year on just the films of his that I haven't seen.

Sources say Criterion is working on another animated release besides Fantastic Mr. Fox. Any guesses?

Films Criterion are trying to get ahold of/working on. Red River(1948), Todd Haynes' [Safe], Bicycle Thieves upgrade, Abel Gance's Napoleon, Jan Troell's The Emigrants and The New Land, The Devils and the possible animated film.

As for guesses on the animated feature I'm gonna say. Waking Life, The Iron Giant, Ghost in a Shell or Titan AE. If Akira hadn't just been released on blu-ray last week I would've said that. The Iron Giant is WB, but so are the two Troell films and Badlands. Titan is the only one of those I have mixed feelings about, but remember they're just guesses.

I would be happy if they get [Safe] for the Criterion Collection.

I think it is going to be Midnight Cowboy. That's going to be awesome. I hope there's going to be some contributions from Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman.

There's talk that they are going for some of their old laserdisc releases of popular films. Tootsie is something that's been almost confirmed I believe.

You have yet to be wrong in this thread so I'll take that as gold.
