I would absolute die for a Criterion release of Mulholland Dr.
I would absolute die for a Criterion release of Mulholland Dr.
Holy shit! This AND Eraserhead then?? That would be a dream. Dont tease criterion!
Barnes and Noble sale is in full effect!
I'm going shopping this weekend and I've already made a list of what to get... for now.
I really want to pick up Shoah during this sale, but I feel like even at 50% off, I'll still be spending too much money on something I'll most likely never work up the courage to watch ever again.
I'm saving my money for the bigger stuff like some of the Eclipse series and a few box sets for November (unless there's some announcements like Y Tu Mama Tambien).
how long does the sale go for?
Until July 29th.

I just posted a wishlist that I wrote over the weekend: http://thevoid99.blogspot.com/2013/0...shlist-ii.html
I can't believe La Notte is going to be in Criterion. Once I pick up L'Eclisse and La Notte later on and I will now complete the Alienation trilogy.
Still feeling very blue balled on the two David Lynch and two David Cronenberg movies that are coming.... whenever...
I'm still waiting on the news about the films of Darren Aronofsky that might be coming as well as Y Tu Mama Tambien and Breaking the Waves.
I have to admit that, having not gotten the things which I wanted for October (but have already seen), the October releases do look really cool, having never seen any of them. I guess that's why I pay attention to this release schedule in the first place. It opens new doors.
I saw that. He's picked some cool stuff. He mentioned Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker. I own the 2-disc DVD of that film. Shit, I would love a Criterion edition of that film. It's definitely one of Tarkovsky's best films.
Just snagged:
On the Waterfront - BD
Walkabout - BD
Vampyr - DVD (really hoping this sees a BD release some day)
Eclipse Series: SABU! - DVD
In the course of the sales, I got Badlands, Stranger Than Paradise, Down By Law, Mystery Train, Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, and Sweetie. If I still have a bit of money by the 5th of August, I'll get one more.
In this sale I got:
The Samurai Trilogy
Haxan
The Devil's Backbone
The Thin Red Line
also, this thread inspired me a few months ago to get "Badlands" which in turn inspired me to get "Days of Heaven," and so I scooped up "The New World" and "The Tree of Life" presented with the rare oppurtunity to watch filmmakers work in the order in which they were produced. Also: "Apocalypse now" on Blu-Ray.
I saw the Samurai Trilogy this past spring. That's a fucking trilogy. I also saw Haxan last year. Every fan of horror has to see that.
I haven't seen the trilogy yet, but Mifune as Musashi is something I'm very eager to see.
I saw Haxan last year and love it immediately. I'm showing it to my students in October!
My local B&N broke street date on Devil's Backbone. Just picked that and On The Waterfront up. So stoked about Devil's Backbone. I wasn't wanting to wait until the November sale to get it!

I think B&N had a special week-early release for The Devil's Backbone.
I went a little crazy with this sale and got 20 titles but only spent $222.25, averaging about $11 and change per title. I think I am done for now, but there is still about two weeks and I might get the itch to pick up Carlos and Marketa Lazarova, although both are blind buys and I don't like doing that too often. They are both streaming on Netflix and Hulu Plus respectively so maybe I will check them out on there first.
My Haul:
- 8 1/2
- Badlands
- Ballad of Narayama
- The Blob
- Broadcast News
- Crumb
- Curious Case of Benjamin Button
- Days of Heaven
- Devil's Backbone
- Double Life of Veronique
- Ice Storm
- Kid With a Bike
- Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
- Life of Oharu
- Lord of the Flies
- Seventh Seal
- Shoah
- The Thin Red Line
- Tiny Furniture
- Wild Strawberries

Damn, the Uninvited scared the shit out of me when I was growing up. That movie is fantastic.
Bought The Royal Tenenbaums on Blu today. Figured I'd start double-dipping on the double-disc CC's I have. The transfer is pretty good, I'm not expert on this but I think it might be the best looking Criterion Blu I've seen next to Thin Red Line.
Went ahead and snagged: Godzilla & Fish Tank before the sale ended.
Successfully nabbed Repo Man and The Devil's Backbone during the sale.
For anyone with the newsletter, has anyone got an idea of the osprey might come from? I thought of Kes but then I realized it's already on Criterion DVD/Blu-Ray.
What I'm hearing is that it's for Robert Altman's Nashville.
JUST A HEADS UP:
For those that dont use Hulu Plus, Netflix is adding a ton of Criterion HD titles (yet arent using the Criterion covers) about to head to work so dont have time to really check the transfers, but they have added quite a few this week that i have never seen on netflix.
