some things work in a book, different things work in a film adaptation. Even if King hates The Shining movie, I think he'd probably agree with that, and the stark and disturbing sexual horror of the book will not translate well to a film in the same that it divisively works as literature. If we really need the whole "coming of age" "puberty horror" aspect of the book to work in the film, read the book I guess. It's not going to work on screen.
