listened to Tear From The Red by poison the well today. quintessential fall album for me, never gets old.
Really wish these dudes would have put out another album.
New Norma Jean today. Polar Similar might be my favorite album of theirs (at least since Bless the Martyr, but it's apples and oranges at this point) and they may have at least matched it with All Hail. Fucking tremendous five songs in.
So I found Jungle Rot on Spotify. That was interesting and it's pretty quality death.
Lately I’ve been gravitating towards heavier music, but nothing too extreme. I’ve been lurking in this thread for quite some time but didn’t find anything that resonated. Until I saw this:
Saw A&P this summer. The sound was punishing. Read on one of his social media accounts he brings his own sub woofers to his shows. Met him at the merch booth after his set, nice guy.
Which then led me to discover Lingua Ignota shortly thereafter, as she and A&P did a tour together overseas.
Saw her in September in Chicago. Raw and powerful. I’m utterly fascinated by her music and the story behind it. She’s coming back to Chicago in December. Already have my ticket.
Then I explored the Sargent House website and discovered Brutus.
Saw Brutus Tuesday. Great show, great energy. I have never seen a drummer who is the lead/only singer (I’m sure there are others out there).
So I guess that means I like doom metal...or melodic metal. I don’t know how to “classify” my taste to discover similar bands.
Definitely will be seeing this April 2nd!!!! @Prettybrokenspiral
Underoath has two singers. Aaron drums for them and sings alot of their clean vocals. Better drummer than singer. MEEEEAAN drummer when he wants to be.
And then you've got one of the best drummers in music period, Brann from Mastodon, who also does a good amount of their singing:
I guess they wouldn't be their band's true lead singers though.
Brutus isn't doom metal. But they blend lots of different flavors in their sound. Hard to pigeonhole them. They have Convergy chaotic parts, melodic parts, some punk elements, some doomey/trancey sections. Exciting stuff.
I'm just now getting into GOJIRA, but am slightly overwhelmed as to where to really sink my teeth into. Any suggestions?
I don't know if they have been mentioned in another post as i have not read the entire thread yet, but Brand of Sacrifice is a nice heavy one. The band name and music were inspired by a manga (Japanese comic) named Berserk. A very dark story set in a world of swords, knights, and demons.

Was about to post this, phenomenal. The band is on a new level and Travis sounds like a ghoulish monster.

I was gonna skip the Morbid Angel, Watain and Incantation show next month but now I am not so sure.

Cattle Decapitation leaked. It’s good.
It also came a 5 days early.
Fuck the haters; I saw The Agonist and Jinjer last night. Both bands slayed. The place was sold out. Crowd was absolutely savage. Brutal show.
Even managed to grab a Jinjer setlist (Pisces and Captain Clock were the encore, not pictured below).
Lorna Shore without Tom Barber rules. I loved Darkest Spawn earlier this year and now this song dropped.
Fuck yeah! New album out in February, too.
whats up Deadguy/Cave In! Just menacing stuff here, with a constant dirge.
