Trent/NIN gets mentioned in the final paragraph of this Gary Numan interview
Would love to see the two of them hook up again.

That's cool. Since it's the both of them it's likely an EP song that'll get deconstructed. My money is on less than.

That podcast is so cool! I was actually wondering a while ago if T&A would ever be on it at some point.

I was hoping it would be something from the third EP, but it's "The Lovers"...which is already kind of deconstructed...

Not that I don't believe you, but how do you know? Did they (the podcast) discuss, advertise, or announce it? (I was really hoping for news on EP3. I guess it could still happen...)

I get where you're coming from. The host usually plays the next episode's song at the end of the current episode, and at the end of the most recent episode, he played "Lovers". Plus I've never really heard him talk about anything other than the song that's being exploded, so unless Reznor or Ross are forthcoming with new information about EP 3 (ha), pretty sure we're just going to get a really cool break down of "Lovers".

I love Song Exploder! I've been following since the very beginning and always hoped TR & AR would do one.

A non-spotting... I was just buying The Defiant Ones on bluray for a couple xmas gifts and noticed there’s absolutely no mention of TR or NIN on the thing. Weird.

    NIN Spotting 2017

Man, judging from this Song Exploder episode, Atticus played a really huge role in writing and putting The Lovers together. Trent says he wasn't even in the room when he put together that weird ambient loop (from a strange instrument called the Luminist Garden) and percussion that the song is built on top of.

A little more depressing is the reveal of the song's subject matter. It felt kind of uncomfortable. (I won't spoil it.)

Edit: found a download on Reddit. I'd link it but it's not my file...so go there if you can't wait for the iTunes drop.

Holy shit that isolated guitar track sounds like it's straight from The Fragile.

Edit: Fascinating look into how they build a song...buuuuut now I want one for every song.

Well, The Lovers just became far more fucking creepy, not to say it wasn't creepy before.

I know how you feel. It also made me crave the multitracks for... basically everything we don't have, but especially for recent stuff, HM and HTDA included.

This was FAR more interesting than I expected it to be and I now have a newfound appreciation for The Lovers. I had actually considered that the premise for the song (as Trent explained in this podcast) might be the the premise for the EPs as a whole, especially Not the Actual Events. It had occurred to me that it might be a "what if..." scenario about how things would be/feel if he gave up and embraced his demons or never conquered them in the first place (also fits the alternate reality/simulation theme that Add Violence alludes to). Thankfully that's not the case — I prefer my favorite musician alive, happy, & healthy! I hope he isn't torturing himself too much.
