i fucking LOVED last.fm for years and years, until one day it said "your free trial period has expired. did you enjoy it?" or something to that effect.
i was thinking "what trial? the six years it was free?"
how much does it cost?
Edit: ok, is it free again? i couldn't remember my old password, so i'm "elevenisms" now.
So someone fill me in please...how much last.fm can i get without paying the $3?
Yes, i am actually in a situation where i literally don't have $3 and probably won't for the foreseeable future. it's a long story.

Depends what you use it for, really. I was a free member for years and only subscribe now because I think the features (mostly knowing who's viewing my profile) are worth the 3 bucks. I could go either way on it though since I just use it to scrobble my iPod.
my last.fm. using it a lot, especially to discover new music. I'm using Lazify, a spotify app, where you put a song/artist and they create a playlist with similar music according to last.fm.

Anyone else not digging the new changes?
If they add in the ability to change usernames or transfer scrobble data from one profile to another I won't care so much what it looks like.
Although definitely the nitpick i agree with would be to change the display of scrobble info from song - artist to artist - song again.
The new design is horrible. It makes me not want to use the site at all anymore and that's a shame.
Yeah, I haven't even listened to my iPod much lately. Hopefully they'll get the hint soon and change it.
I liked how before there were no ads on your page. Now the whole right side is ads. I'm willing to bet that they put the ad free version behind a pay wall

This is promising.
New lastfm is useless to me so far, since they completely fucked up Events feature. I used it a lot to plan concert trips and to monitor what's going on not only in my city but several neighbouring ones, plus looking for some nice festival lineups. I understand having a beta version without half of the features working as long as the old website is up. But what they did this time sucks.

They've fixed some things. And also I've discovered QTScrobbler, which might have saved my sanity lol.
Today I celebrate being on last.fm for 10 years. I scrobbled a lot of different music in these years. More or less the only constant artist is NIN. Funny to go back in time. This was vastly improved with the re-design.
I'm SchwarzerAbt over there too. If you want to come over and hang out on my party...
I signed up for it back in 06 but couldn't figure out how to get it to scrobble my ipod classic so I let it lapse. With the advent of the newest music app from Apple I bought a different app and it has last.fm built in. So I've been listening the crap out of things since then and it's funny that my stat right now is averaging two songs a day. Quite an increase for something I haven't used in almost a decade.
I just wish I could upload my itunes database so that it was more current. Then again, if I did that all of my sons music would go up too. Like the Lego Movie soundtrack and it's 100+ plays, or the Charlie Brown soundtrack with it's 80+ plays. Kind of skews things.
I have an account but wish I could scrobble with the music player on my iPhone. I have to rely on Spotify to record my plays onto Last.fm
I think I'm gradually going off using last.fm. I haven't submitted scrobble data for ages. I'm about to abandon maintaining qtscrob in Debian.
There are some but I've decided not to use them. I'm fine with just having scrobbles on Spotify.
This is my profile https://www.last.fm/user/tonyvilaysack00
I use Marvis and it scrobbles. They have a free version with ads and the paid one is only $3.99. Lots of options for sorting and play order unlike the stock music app.
Also they 'fixed' the scrobbling from your desktop that broke with the last iTunes update. Too bad iTunes is still broken though.
I use QTScrobbler, going off my iPod Classic. Works like a charm.
I'm way too obsessed with my stats and probably should just pay the $3/mo to support a service I love and use daily.

I deleted my account, I noticed I was listening to music not for what I enjoyed anymore but for increasing my numbers.
Also it doesn't help that they dropped support for the desktop app for my ipod Classic. Bastardos.
QTScrobbler is the way to go for iPod Classic users
Last.fm gives you yearly statistics, but it's also fun to Look at your own end-of-the-decade-numbers. Here are mine:
