Found out my girlfriend is going to have a baby girl!
Found out my next tour could be two years long. Damn near unheard of these days. Score!
Aunt's friend is getting funding for a book, so I may be hired as its photographer! I've never been published before... Fingers crossed, this better not fall through!
Tomorrow, a touring theatre company arrives in town to perform their one-person show in our rarely-used secondary Studio space. Their technical rider called for some fairly basic lighting equipment, but since this summer theatre festival I'm working for is a comparatively small operation, it was an open question whether or not we could provide it since our old-ass Studio equipment is not very well maintained even when people are using it (which is to say, hardly ever). My boss has been blindly operating under the assumption that we'll just have it ready in time, with no backup plan, while he and the other production crew busy themselves on the main stage show.
Basiclally, it fell into my lap to make an impossible miracle happen and pull a working rig together out of the scrap heap. Today, I fucking conquered that shit — resurrected a dimmer pack and a computerized control board, both possibly older than I am — which was giving me nothing but grief and nervousness for weeks on end. All it took was some serious time, careful and extensive online research, a soldering gun and my careful, steady hand. What's up, ladies?
An intimidating but excellent Math professor said he'd be one of my references for re-entry to graduate school, once I got my guts together and asked him today!
I got a post-doc at the National Institute of Health. A Job, free health care and the ability to move away from this place all in one!
I now have my own apartment. I just signed the lease and picked up the keys today, and I'm moving this weekend.
So...(and this feels SO good to say)...FUCK YOU, asshole roommate. You can continue pissing your life down the drain far, far away from me.
HELLS YEAH. Mail him a postcard of you giving him the finger.
It's my birthday!

My train wreck of a sister, who lives in another state, had her kids taken away about 7 years ago. I found out two days ago, anonymously, that they were adopted into a nice family, and the oldest just started college! They appear happy, and healthy. They have braces, nice clothes, glasses - all the things that middle class kids are supposed to have. I will not contact them, or tell her, but I can't express how truly joyful this is. They would have had no life with my sister, and we were too far away to be involved or do anything about it. This is truly a wonderful wonderful thing.
I don't know, some day, they might want to know a bit about their bio family. You might be a good, safe connection. I'd put your name in at the adoption/social service agency as some one they should feel free to contact. Someday you might hear from them. My S.I.L and ex were both adopted and both thought about looking for their original families when they were in their late teens early twenties.

after a few months of wishy-washy feelings about being a musician (see other threads for hints of this) i just caved and bought myself a tr-707 drum machine. time to get real and start making my own music on my own terms. i'm excited, and figure if i can't pull this off, then i can more easily accept retirement. win-win!
They just started playing Coil's "The Snow" on the house music at the metal show I'm at. Holy shit. That's rad.
