grabbed pit tix for the gorge through one of the presales. summer can't come soon enough.
Can't decide if I should go to the Mountain View show. I'm not a huge fan of the Shoreline, though Arcade Fire are playing Oakland in a month, but it's for one of those radio holiday festivals and that would mean a shorter set. Meh.
I listened to the album again yesterday and it's grown on me. I just like some of the rhythms and experiments that goes on. Though I still think Neon Bible is their best album so far.
I tend to hear this a lot. While the sound isn't the greatest, there's still something amazing to me being up on that grass at sundown. Really good memories from that place over the years. APC running across the lawn during Lolla'03, to crazy the crazy hillside pit during RATM during Evil Empire tour.
I really like to hear Arcade Fire in an outdoor setting. I remember hearing the organ reverbing off the Gorge at Sasquatch.
I'm a stickler when it comes to good sound at at show...plus I'm way more into intimate shows. I've been to quite a few shows at the Shoreline and every time I come away somewhat disappointed. I suppose it's personal preference. To be clear, I love outdoor settings for shows, I just don't really like the Shoreline. I saw the Tallest Man on Earth at an outdoor show a few years ago that was extremely intimate and great sounding...I'm just weird.
"Neon Bible" is by far the best album by AF, both "Funeral" and "Suburbs" are great but "Neon Bible" is a much "round" "equilibrated" listen, i also like the mood that you get on hearing the whole thing (I can listen to Funeral and Suburbs complete too, but most of the time i find myself skipping a few tracks...)
Well it's all a matter of opinion, but The Suburbs is their crowning achievement in my eyes. A perfectly paced, perfectly executed, sprawling piece of art that so perfectly encapsulates the feeling of isolation, angst, and boredom that comes with living in a suburban area without making it feel like a cheap gimmick used to create a concept album. It was 100% from the heart and it showed.
just listened to all 4 albums in a row in one sitting. not a clunker in the entire catalog imo
I never understood the hate for the Suburbs I think it's great. I think people like to hate what they do t give time
Did not know about the London gig at the Roundhouse at all! Went to a different gig anyway.
Funeral is great, but I happen to think Neon Bible is their masterpiece I usually skip a few songs from their other albums but I think Neon Bible is flawless.
I don't hate it at all, and I've listened to it a cagillion times. I really like about half the songs, but there are also a handful of songs that kinda bore me. It's more an issue of Neon Bible being that much better. Nothing off Suburbs holds a candle to The Well and the Lighthouse
<3
@cashpiles was right about Porno... But for me, goddamn that's like the only song I wanna hear. Well, Flashbulb Eyes is also pretty good... Otherwise you can count me on out of this shit. Ouch.
Top notch video.
Notice the lack of shots taken in the director's basement studio using an iphone.
So Win Butler showed up at a local bar last night and did a surprise DJ set and it was pretty amazing. Jamming out to NIN with Win right next to me was probably one of the highest points of my life. He also passed me a bottle of Maker's Mark during an NWA track. Dude went for like 3 hours, and at one point turned the club into a Haitian House Party and had one of Arcade Fire's new percussionists up there banging on tables and stuff. Just a truly bizarre yet crazy awesome night. And now I get to turn around and see the real Arcade Fire show tonight. YES!!
Kind of funny that he makes a statement at Coachella about electronic artists, then goes and DJs for three hours. I'm beginning to think he's taking the piss.
Yeah, they even showed up as the fake "Daft Punk" at Coachella, was this a diss or they really like them? I'm confused now...
His DJ set definitely felt very tongue in cheek, which made it even better. He didn't sync ANYTHING up. He literally was just playing songs off of his iTunes and then his way of cross-fading was to do a shit ton of digital delay in between tracks. I think the only time he ever actually mashed anything up was when he would play a verse to Kanye's I Am A God and then cut into the chorus of You're So Vain. But, definitely a pretty fun tongue in cheek thing.
Oh and I'm pretty sure the Daft Punk thing was also them mocking how everyone at Coachella wouldn't shut up about how Daft Punk was going to do a secret set with Pharell Williams.
Seeing Arcade Fire in London on Saturday. Now wondering what to wear!. Costume or formal!? 2ManyDJs and Lorde supporting!
Just saw this for the first time, so again, I'm late to the party here.... but his "fuck DJ 'culture' and electronic musicians in general!" gesture has been really lame and unfortunate.
I'm sure they're upset that while they're headlining for the tenth year in a row, they're tired of people endlessly hoping Daft Punk shows up. Maybe they should dress up as Labyrinth era David Bowie too, since that rumor gets thrown around every year too.

I'd go dressed as Daft Punk wielding glowstick dildos, but that's me.

Electronica isn't real music...? Yeah cause suburban middle class endless indie rehash music is so real
By that logic the Monkees are better than Aphex Twin
This is why I try to ignore interviews/press
I don't read much interviews anymore, but by that logic they wouldn't of had 2ManyDJ's supporting!.
Anyways decided to go 80's style nice and easy.
