seeing how God Break Down The Door sounds just like the single version the "Quality" you guys are speaking about is just NIN being NIN.
Yeah, I'm loving this then. Lo-fi and heavy. !!!!
Trent's voice in Over and Out sounds so different. I love how he experimented a lot with his voice in this trilogy.
I hate when things get leaky when I only have an iPhone around.
Cant wait to listen. Your descriptions sound good.
Shit Mirror: Pure lo-fi assault. Noisy as fuck!
Well, for anyone who didn't like God Break Down The Door because of the Bowie resemblance, you're going to hate Over And Out.
I'm digging it though. Probably my favorite track from this release.
Shit Mirror doesn't quite live up to the promise of a world of scatological reflection in its title, but it is really great and comes close. Starting my second listen.
Ahead of Ourselves is another song like The Background World on AV where, improbably like 24 years into my NIN fandom, I have a new NIN song I can (probably) list among my favorites. And same with God Break Down The Door, really. This trilogy has been quite a trip.
Play The Goddamned Part is most reminiscent of a cross between Driver Down and The Mark Has Been Made with some of the more percussive elements of some of the Ghosts tracks (I can never remember which is which) thrown in. I really enjoy it, and it's a perfect intro to GBDTD.
I guess even though I was boosting the instrumentals, I'm a bit let down on first listen by INFTW (acronym sounds like a personality type), since it's kinda within the score realm, but as a come down for the whole trilogy it might work really well. I'm gonna try and hear the whole trilogy sometime today or tomorrow. And I need to hear the track more than once anyway.
I loved how suddenly the vocals came in and Over and Out. A great closer with some beautiful tones in among the darker elements. I'm only one listen on that so far, too.
Not expecting it, but since these releases have all been in the top tier for me and I think lots of others, it would be great to get some kind of remix album for 'em to solidify their status, and maybe boost up the visibility of the other EPs if TR thinks they weren't given enough importance.
the silence in the middle of shit mirror isn't silence at all. if you amplify it you get a strange recording. can someone transcribe it? i think this is a warm place 2.0. in the link you can find the recording put through different audio effects: https://vocaroo.com/i/s0vYw4r3WIxd
This is really surprising. I love it.
My god the groove on Over and Out.
INFTW - certainly doesn't fit well with the songs around it . it reminds me alot of Further Down the Spiral. It seems very out of place to me.
Ahead of Ourselves: Oh now this is the good shit.
First impressions are that I'm loving the shit out of this. This does feel like Trent's breaking newer ground compared to his most recent output ... it's dark, noisy and very noir sounding at times.
Play the Goddamned Part: Ghosts + sax + some tremendous percussion.
DamnI've scoured the net and can't find it. Any hints? lol
It is going to take everything I have to not listen to this until the release. Fuck.
So far, gotta say Shit mirror is my early favorite, but haven't had time to digest the whole album yet...stupid work lol
we got ahead of ourselves we got ahead of ourselves we got ahead of ourselves we got ahead of ourselves we got ahead of ourselves
God Break Down the Door: What more can be said?
Pitchfork is gonna give this album like an 8.2
Second listen is done. This is maybe my favorite release out of all three. Which is really saying something. We'll see how it holds up but it's the most consistently and immediately satisfying to me. I'm Not From This World has grown on me, too. It works really well where it's placed.
Crud, I'm stuck at work and don't wanna go to any iffy sites. Where you folks finding this thing?
Edit: An awesome person hooked me up, YES!

I'm Not From This World: Feels a little more like a TR/AR soundtrack song than a NIN. But I dig the mellowness.
