Listening to Stadium Arcadium for first time in ages now. There's a lot of amazing stuff on that record. The guitars alone are worth the price of admission.

I could not care less for the new album, but that cover art is awesome, it has "Frusciante's acid trip" written all over it...
Cover art rules. Ready for the album <3
Is there really any other kind, this millennium?
WARNING: INASNITY LEVEL=QUOTES ITSELF
"RHCP are a band where I like them a lot, but I've not gotten into the albums in a long, long time...since Blood Sugar, i think.
They've got at least fifteen songs that I fucking ADORE, like the one about living in California, and the one about moving to California, and the one about California. I do legitimately love a lot of that stuff.
I don't know ANYONE irl who's like a hardcore RHCP fan, going to multiple shows and waiting for every release.
Is it just me, or did they kind of become sort of a "radio" band for a lot of people? Like, everyone wanna hear Last Dance With Mary Jane, Life is More Than Just a Read Thru, and Where I Go I Just Don't No, and With The Bug I Share The Lonely View and such, but they aren't anybody's favorite band."
This is a slightly amended version of something i posted a couple of pages back: something with which a few people seemed to agree.
@GulDukat says "exactly what i was expecting, no surprises" and "sooooo by the numbers," yet he somewhat digs it.
@LaneSax said "Good background music."
So. IDK. RHCP are gonna RHCP.
i predicted we'll get three, maybe four, reasonable, "wait, don't change the station" songs out of a 2022 double album. Two of them would include the word California.
This might be an extremely odd comparison, but i feel like they've got what they do, these days, down to a science, like later day ACDC.
I'm just glad they're out there doing their thing, still, honestly, especially when the platypus are so few.

I don't think it's a bug with whom the lonely view is shared
maybe someone knows what this means but it's what I read and want to pass it along:For the vinyl buyers, rumor is that all the black vinyl is being pressed by Optimal this time around, with all the colored variants coming from GZ. Buy the black ones, guys!
Interesting setlist from Santa Clara. 6 songs from Stadium Arcadium & only 1 each from BSSM & Californication! If they're doing thematic shows, I'll take By the Way Wednesday, please.

@chuckrh sounds almost like a recent NIN setlist.
I listened to this as a playlist, and I'd have been happy with the set: I think a lot of it plays better to their current strengths and vibe, than a lot of other possibilities.
I'd rather hear some of these tracks I DON'T really know, than Higher Ground or Suck My Kiss, or Fight Like a Brave at this point.
I'd replace Dani California with Scar Tissue, though. DC is SUCH a blatant ripoff of Tom Petty, both musically and lyrically,, and whether it was conscious or not, it makes my brain hurt.
But yeah. Hell. I'd go see this. I'd get lawn seats at the ole' Starplex.

Aside from the whole "By the Way" album I'd love to hear "I Could Have Lied". Great song & John always goes off on that one. I'm excited for tonight. I listened to a tape of Sunday's show from LA & the band was absolutely smoking. A bit more of a greatest hits set but they crushed it. Interesting they aren't playing "Under the Bridge" every night as it's probably their biggest hit but they played it in LA. They can't really play LA & not do that song. BTW: Tom Petty was good with "Dani California". Said he liked the song & there was never any talk from him about suing the band or demanding royalties. Probably won't happen but I'd love to hear "Venice Queen" tonight. This is my big rock show of the summer. I've got some shows in September/October but I passed on the big summer shows. RHCP tickets weren't cheap but they were less here than the Def Leppard/Motley Crue spectacle. I wouldn't have minded going to that for nostalgia purposes but there was no way I was paying over $100 to sit in the upper deck of the stadium for it.
@chuckrh I know tom was good with DC.
My point still stands.
And, I just happen to prefer "withabugtha share this long live you."
But man. Have a fucking grand time tonite!
The band were fantastic Wednesday night. They had great sound (tricky in the baseball stadium) & a cool light rig. It's special when Flea & Frusciante lock in the groove. Interesting set. They've been changing about half the set list every night. We got the first "Parallel Universe" of the tour which is one of my faves. A killer "Me & My Friends" too. I'd recommend seeing them this tour if you can. There's a great tape of the show up on Red Hot Chili Peppers Live Archive. Probably the best recording I've heard from this tour.

New single Tippa My Tongue out on 19th
Preview sounds promising minus the vocals
I guess i'm done with this band...
Not fooling anyone!
If you're in this thread, you're far from done.
The first single means nothing. I'm sure there will be some cool jams on this album. If anything this is going to be a great opportunity to compile the ultimate single album from all the tunes being released this year.
Not trying to fool anyone, i want to like the new songs, i really do.
But they feel so stale, so formulaic, i want to get excited ever since "The Getaway", but i just don't feel it.
Obviously i'm in this thread because i used to care a lot for this band "One Hot Minute", "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" and "Mother's Milk" were very important albums for my life.
But ever since "Stadium Arcadium" my interest in this band has been decreasing, i check the singles (even listened to the whole "Unlimited Love" album), but i just don't feel excited anymore ,so i guess i'm done ...could be wrong, but i'm 90% sure...
The new album has leaked. Anyone get to listen to it yet?
A PM would be super cool with your thoughts and stuff.
I'm a Californication fan first, more than a RHCP fan. I do love half of the songs in each of the subsequent albums. But those last two, I got nothing to come back to. I don't think they are bad either. I find it amazing that they can still have fun and rock together.
There are some good jams and gems on here:
Reach Out
Fake as Fu@k
Bella
Roulette
The Drummer
Bag Of Grins
Carry Me Home
In The Snow

On my first listen
so far, i prefer Unlimited Love among the two very similar albums
I gave it the car test. Sounds fantastic in there. I've got a fairly good system in my car. It's just old enough where it still has a CD player. The band sounds best when John layers on the backing vocals to the point where they're almost covering Anthony, haha. Have thought that for a long time. I know that it wouldn't be RHCP without Anthony but doesn't hurt to fantasize.
