The album suffers from a muddy, poor production and Gary's strained singing at times is another major flaw. If you can look past that, however, there's some great moments and, overall, the album is not as bad its reputation, IMHO. I am very curious to hear what the follow-up would have sounded like. They were well on their way to completing their second album with Gary when he was let-go. I'd love to hear those along with the 1985 demos that Van Halen were recording with David Lee Roth, shortly before he left. Roth sang on an early demo of "Summer Nights," originally titled "Eat Thy Neighborhood." Man, I'd love for that to be released.
I think it is safe to say anything Gary Cherone related will never see light...
If I am not wrong, even VH3 is no longer in print which to me suggests Eddie wants to erase that whole era
I actually didn't mind Gary's vocals and perhaps if another band released VH3, it wouldn't be so badly criticised.
My list, if anyone cares:
1. Van Halen
2. Van Halen II
3. Fair Warning
4. 1984
5. OU812
6. Women and Children First
7. A Different Kind of Truth
8. F.U.C.K.
9. Diver Down
10. 5150
11. Balance
Van Halen III (Didn't want to rate it, lol...)
From the new live album:
About what I expected. Not bad, but Dave isn't the singer he once was. They should have released an album from the 1984 tour.

Any of you guys going to the tour? Honestly, I haven't been a huge Van Halen fan since high school, although the excellent A Different Kind of Truth rekindled my interest in the band. That said, they were an important part of my youth and I owe it to my 16 year-old inner self to go see them. I'm sure that it will be a good show.
This is pretty much exactly how I feel. I will go because 16 year old me would be pissed at the me of now for not doing so. I've only seen them with Gary Cherone, so that doesn't exactly count. I feel like I have to, especially since this is likely the final tour they'll do with Dave.
Van Halen will be on Jimmy Kimmel tonight and tomorrow and Ellen on Thursday.
Pretty good.
I saw them like 3 years ago, I thought they were pretty good. I would recommend it if you haven't seen them yet.
I listened to the new live album today and was pleasantly surprised. My expectations were low based on the songs that I heard, mostly because Dave sounded pretty rough, but the album is actually pretty good. Yeah, Dave sounds thin, but if you listen to the entire concert from the beginning and go with the flow, it's a very enjoyable show. Ed and Al sound awesome and Wolfie can hold his own. Dave's banter (he sometimes speaks in Japanese) is also a lot of fun. This isn't an essential album or one of the best live albums ever, but if you like Van Halen you should dig this album.

This is still the best Van Halen thing to come out in years.
The Circle--Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham, & Vic Johnson, have a new live album out next week:

Great mix of Zeppelin, Hagar-era Van Halen and Sammy solo.
From the Billboard Music Award Show last night:
hmm so EVH is back to bashing Diamond Dave
oh boy, I hope this does not affect a new record!

He said that Dave doesn't "want to be his friend" and listens to dance music while the other three like rock n' roll. No big deal, as far as I'm concerned. Ed and Dave always had a love/hate relationship. Plus, Eddie has often said how awesome Sammy or Gary was, right before they had a falling out, so I wouldn't make too much of this.
I thought that his comments about Mike being a shitty singer and how his harmonies were never that important and how Mike didn't know how to play bass (Ed claims he had to teach him) were low-blows and pretty dickish.
That said, I'd be kind of be surprised if Van Halen did record another album. They're so dysfunctional and not getting any younger. That said, they released a dozen albums, all of which I've enjoyed and while I'd always love another one, their legacy is all set and if it ends tomorrow. I'm glad that they went out on top with the excellent A Different Kind of Truth.
I'm looking forward to seeing them this summer, even if it is for the last time.

Sammy has a response to Eddie's claims about Mike: https://celebrity.yahoo.com/news/sam...021647045.html
I agree with Sammy. Eddie is a fucking liar.
I do think Sammy tends to exaggerate, i.e., "I was just as big as Van Halen was, as a solo artist in 1984," "I sold 100 million albums with Van Halen," etc., but I'm with Sammy on this. I really, really doubt that Mike was so incompetent he couldn't play the bass parts for Van Halen. Mike is the nicest guy in that band and Ed treated him like shit. That's not right.
Mansfield show was awesome. Best I've ever seen this band. Can't believe Roth is 60. Great set list, all the classics and a ton of fan favorites.
Sammy Hagar and The Circle (Jason Bonham-drums, Vic Johnson-guitar, Michael Anthony-bass) have a new album, Space Between, coming out 5/10.
New song "Trust Fund Baby."
Sounds good. Nothing earth-shattering, but good old-school rock n' roll. I was listening to their live album, At Your Service (2015) the other day and forgot how good it is.
And the Zeppelin stuff is really fucking good.
Seeing Sammy Hagar and The Circle this May in Boston. I'm honestly a lot more excited about that than a possible Van Halen tour. I'm more of a Dave guy, but another tour without any new album is pretty stale--hearing the same songs for the past 12 years.
Sammy and The Circle's tour dates are listed on their website.
