I mean it looks objectively worse doesn't it? the colors are dull, it looks washed out. It looks like it was left out in the sun too long.
About the only thing that i dig about the image on the right are the scanlines.
I understand everything about experiencing something as it looked at the time for nostalgia sake, I get kicks out of watching VHS tapes in a VCR with a CRT but if it was technologically restrained and there was something better (DVD, Blu-ray), why not go with the better option?

Uhhh.... what? Meant to be played as shitty looking as possible? Ok.
It reminds me of when texture filtering is used in certain games and it just makes everything look muddy instead of crisp.
