1:07 is a good place to start. They’re referring to the Spin article. 1:09 is where Ben is mentioned specifically. Your timeline matches his but Aaron’s take on Ben’s preference leads me to believe him watching Aaron in BYIT would sting a bit.

Edit: The Spin article is a great read if you're into things Aaron. Fun little quotes in there.

So I emailed him back and was like, ‘You want me to be in your shitty fucking goth band?'”

Welp, here's the man himself specifically recalls the same events on the same podcast. (27:00)

So this is kind of interesting: both SW's opinions on NIN, and Trent's opinion on them, and the fact that their drummer was in Exotic Birds

Edit: for the record, I do think T-Rez was being a bit harsh in that interview. He said the same thing that THEY said, that record companies were signing bands that "sounded like NIN" for a minute. But he added "they ripped me off."

I don't think SW was like "hey, let's create an NIN ripoff band!"
Chris Vrenna was IN the damn band for their demo tape in 91 or 92.

AND, their commercial debut came out BEFORE TDS.

Well if they wanted to distance themselves from NIN, they're doing a poor job of it. One of their latest singles is called "Now I'm Nothing"

It’s actually “I Am Nothing” and really doesn’t sound like NIN at all.

EarthQuaker Devices posted a documentary about their Afterneath guitar pedal. Robin is one of the people interviewed in it. They also show him playing some guitar with the pedal. I queued up the link to start in the right place, but if it doesn't work for you, skip to 31:48.

Did we know Trent is going to be on the new Antonio Sánchez album?
    From a gig listing

In Spring 2022 Antonio will release SHIFT (Bad Hombre Vol 2). The much-anticipated recording features collaborations with artists ranging from Trent Reznor to Lila Downs…from Meshell Ndegeocello to Dave Mathews and more – songs from a spectrum of international singer-songwriters Sanchez greatly admires.

Wait, "Eh Hee"? That song from 2007?

Can anyone familiar with the other artists comment as to whether they are new or old songs?

"Comet, Come to Me" is from 2014. Not this "new" version, obviously.

Well, I am a huge SW fan. Do they have similarities to NIN, absolutely. Do they deny it, NOPE. Do they have their own sound, they sure do. They've put out great music over the past 25-30ish years and are a great live act.
Out of all the supposed "NIN Rip-Off" acts of the 90s (Gravity Kills, God Lives Underwater, etc), they are arguably the most successful band that has come out. I love their blend of rock/industrial music. They have catchy riffs and their synth breakdowns during songs are some of my favorites of any band out there.

Check out their latest album which is pretty much on-par in terms of sound/lyrics from their 90s releases.

Also, if you think SW is a NIN-Rip off, check out Sister Machine Gun's debut, Sins of the Flesh. Pretty Hate Machine, anyone?!?

But to be fair, SMG second album is a banger and worth checking out.

Unless I’m remembering wrong, SMG domain squatted nin.com for a good chunk of the 90s

For the record, I was saying that I DIDN'T think SW was an NIN ripoff.

I finally got around to listening to the deluxe version of Erra's self-titled album from last year. It's got 7 additional tracks on it, including a cover of "Heresy."

Not the best cover I've heard, but also not the worst. They made it unnecessarily congested in certain parts and switched up aspects that, in my opinion, didn't need to change.

I wrote Bon Harris of Nitzer Ebb a message on Instagram and he replied.

I told him that I had been wondering, if there had been any history between NE and NIN. I learned from an interview with Chris Vrenna that they liked NE and actually sampled some drum sounds from NE albums.
However, there is nothing known (at least to me) that the two bands ever crossed paths or had anything going on between the two. And it felt like to me, that there almost should have been something throughout the years.

    Anyways, here's what he replied:

Why did I not know about this? And why did I not see it promoted anywhere?

Stellar compilation. A testament to amazing musicianship. Not bragging or anything. (Yes, I did that.)

No one else plays tambourine like Trent.

    Happy April Fools, ya'll.

NIN Twitter and Danny Elfman Instagram both promoted it. I also posted it twice on nincatalog twitter. Not sure if you are on that platform or not.
