I still listen to Alpinisms every now and then but not much of Disconnect From Desire. I heard one of the twins left the band before this record. Is it noticeable in the vocals?

I checked 'em out on YT when I thought I'd be seeing them opening for Interpol last year but, regrettably, wound up missing the opening acts.

The music was good, albeit a bit light and shoegazy for me, but some of their videos were absolutely phenomenal.

Still curious and hoping to see them someday.

    :)

Loving Ghostory a lot. On first listen it seems a bit slight but by the end of the album you just want it to keep playing and hit the button to go again.

Oh no. Thats awful, i heard he was ill, but thought as he was only 35 he might pull through.

I loved School of Seven Bells. their last album was their best, each album was better than the last. Truly beautiful music at times up there with the greats. The Night is one of my favorite, most played songs from past few years, they were one of the best in what they did music wise. Been listening to them loads the past few months, he was a great musician.

Depressing and scary to see such a young talented artist taken like this.

Sad news. 35, and gone less than a year after the diagnosis.

Shit. That sucks. I really like that group. Very underrated. At 35, that's awful.

Saw this today, as well. Very sad. I'm bummed I never had the chance to see him perform live.

Ghostory was one of my favorite albums last year, and their other stuff is fantastic as well. I first became a fan of his work when he was a part of Secret Machines, who also have a lot of great material. Definitely worth checking out. RIP Ben.

I can still remember hearing SVIIB for the first time. It was through a friend via MySpace who posted a bulletin about their song "Half Asleep." Part of me will always like Secret Machines, but SVIIB were the band that really made an impact on me, and it started all those years ago on a now irrelevant social media platform.

I was lucky enough to see Seven Bells play live twice, and had a blast both times. Each show was during the Ghostory era, so the setlists were comprehensive and really satisfying. The 2nd time was at the now defunct Maxwells in Hoboken. Awesome show. I illustrated a poster for that night just for fun and got all the band members to sign a copy for me. Benjamin was last one I met - he was outside the venue chatting, smoking a cigarette, and I approached him. I said hi, asked him to sign my poster, and gave him one of his own. He had such nice things to say, and he was the only one to write something other than his signature on my poster ("Beautiful!"). I've never forgotten his kindness.

In light of his cancer diagnosis, I spent a few months trying to make a benefit concert happen in Northern NJ - there were ups and downs and postponements, but due to a number of factors it never got off the ground, despite the involvement of Anthony Gonzalez and others. I'm sad that concert never happened, but the amazing part of making a go at it was interacting firsthand with so many different artists & managers who wanted to help even if they couldn't in that specific way.

Ultimately, I'm grateful for the music Ben gave us, and even more grateful that I was able to meet him.

Justin Meldal-Johnsen wrote some very moving words on Benjamin's passing. Here's hoping the work JMJ did with the band sees the light of day eventually: http://www.justinmj.com/uncategorized/159/

Additionally, this great SVIIB print is on sale with proceeds going to Ben's family: http://www.zachmcnair.com/shop/sviib

Apparently SVIIB have plans to release an album, on which Benjamin had already finished most of his parts. Extremely excited if this is true, not just for new music (which will probably be phenomenal), but for another album's worth of material for us to remember a very gifted musician by.

This is the only source I've seen so far confirming it, so hopefully it's true!

    Edit:
Also reported on CoS. "[Alejandra] Deheza will make further announcements in the coming weeks."

The new song is tailor-made for a windows-down, speakers-blaring summer drive. Play it LOUD!

So psyched for the whole album!!
